Okay, so, I recently got my hands on the new 2024 Kawasaki ZX-6R. Nice bike, but I wanted to see what I could do with the torque. You know, get a little more oomph out of it, especially in the lower RPMs. It felt a bit weak when you first start riding, not like other bikes I’ve driven.

First thing I did was to start gathering some information about the bike’s engine. I found out that the 2024 model has about 122 horsepower. Okay, not bad, but it’s apparently less than previous models because of new emission standards. But, it’s supposed to have better low and mid-range torque compared to other similar bikes, which is cool for everyday riding.
So, after reading up on it, I started with some basic checks. I checked the air filter to make sure it wasn’t clogged up. It was fine, but it’s always good to start with the basics. I then inspected the fuel injectors – wanted to make sure they were clean and working right.
- Air Filter Check: Made sure it wasn’t dirty or clogged.
- Fuel Injector Inspection: Checked for any blockages or issues.
- Spark Plugs: Replaced them with new ones.
Next, I decided to get into the exhaust system. I swapped out the stock exhaust for a slip-on. It wasn’t too hard to do, just had to follow the instructions and make sure everything was tightened properly. This definitely made a difference in the sound, and it felt like the bike could breathe a bit better.
After that, I moved on to the ECU. I got a fuel management system to adjust the fuel mapping. This was a bit trickier, but I managed to find some good tutorials online. I followed them step-by-step, making small adjustments and testing it out after each change. I used my phone to keep track of the settings and how the bike felt after each tweak.
Fine-Tuning
I spent a couple of days just riding around and fine-tuning the settings. I focused on getting that low-end torque just right. It took some trial and error, but eventually, I found a sweet spot where the bike felt a lot more responsive when taking off. Feels totally different now when accelerating!

Finally, I took the bike out for a longer ride to really test it out. The difference was noticeable. It felt like a whole new machine, especially when accelerating from a stop or going uphill. It felt powerful, more enjoyable to drive. Mission accomplished, I guess.
So yeah, that’s my little project with the 2024 ZX-6R. It was a fun experience, and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s not a race bike or anything, but it’s definitely more fun to ride now. If you’re thinking about doing something similar, just take your time and do your research. It’s worth it!
