Okay, so I’ve been digging into this whole Portland vs. Atlanta thing, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey! I wanted to figure out which city would be a better fit for me, so I started by looking at what people are saying online.

First, I tried to read some articles about the pros and cons of living in Portland. Sounds easy, right? I mean, who doesn’t like a good pros and cons list? Portland seemed pretty cool at first. People were talking about how amazing the food scene is, especially those food cart pods – what a genius idea! And if you’re into outdoor stuff like hiking or paddleboarding, Portland’s got you covered. Plus, it’s apparently super dog-friendly, which is awesome because I love dogs!
Then, I remembered a friend of mine who moved from Atlanta to Portland a couple of years ago, I thought I’d use his experience, too. He gave me a good comparison about both, like saying Portland is way more walkable than Atlanta. You might still want a car, but it sounds like you can get around pretty easily without one. That’s definitely a plus in my book.
I also started looking into Atlanta. To be fair, I only saw the other guy’s comment saying he was originally from there, so I didn’t get a full picture. I guess the biggest takeaway was that it’s not as walkable as Portland, so I probably need to rely on a car. Not ideal, but it is what it is.
So, after all this “research,” I’m still not 100% sure which city is the winner. They both have their upsides and downsides. I guess it really depends on what you’re looking for in a city. I’m still leaning towards Portland because of the food and the outdoor activities, but Atlanta is still in the back of my mind, I didn’t have enough information about it. Maybe I should plan a trip to both cities and see for myself.
- Portland:
- Amazing food scene
- Lots of outdoor activities
- Very dog-friendly
- Super walkable
- Atlanta:
- Not as walkable as Portland
What I Have Found:
Anyway, that’s my little adventure in comparing Portland and Atlanta. It’s not exactly a scientific study, but hey, it’s a start! Maybe I will keep digging and share more later on.
