Okay, so today I decided to get a better grip on rugby 7’s positions. I’ve watched a few games, but honestly, I was always a bit lost about who was doing what exactly. So, I figured, time to roll up my sleeves and learn something new!

Getting Started: Finding the Basics
First, I jumped online to find some basic info. I wanted something visual, you know? Like a diagram or something that would just lay it all out. I found a couple of websites that had breakdowns of the positions, and they gave me a pretty good overview of the names and general roles.
Deep Dive: Watching Some Game Footage
But reading about it is one thing, seeing it in action is another. So, I fired up some YouTube videos of 7’s matches. I focused on trying to identify the different players – the props, the hooker, the scrum-half, all of them. It was tricky at first! It’s such a fast-paced game, and everyone is moving constantly.
The “Aha!” Moments (and the Still Confusing Bits)
I slowly started to see some patterns. For example, it became clearer how the forwards (props and hooker) worked together in the scrum. And I began to understand the role of the scrum-half in getting the ball out quickly to the backs.
- Props: These guys are strong and get into scrum.
- Hooker: Control the ball on ground after tackled.
- Scrum-half: The one to get the ball quickly.
- Fly-half:Seems like control the flow.
- Center: Run and pass a lot.
- Winger: Super fast.
- Sweeper:Good at tackle.
I still have some questions, I wrote them down and going to find out next:
There’s a lot more to it, of course, but I feel like I’ve made a good start today.I think I need to watch more and more games, with these positions in mind, try my best to notice how the players in each position move and interact.

This is just first day’s work, my learning is still going on!
