Alright, let’s talk about this fella, Marvin Delph. Now, I ain’t no fancy sports writer or nothin’, just tellin’ it like I see it. This Marvin, he was a basketball player, a good one, from what I hear. Born back in 1956, September 15th they say. Some folks even say October 15th, but who’s keepin’ track that close, right? He was a black fella, African American, they call it now.

Marvin, he played ball in high school, Conway High, I think it was. And not just playin’, but winnin’! Led them Conway Wampus Cats, funny name ain’t it? Led ’em to two state championships. Now that’s somethin’ to brag about. Two championships! Imagine that. Must’ve been a real firecracker on the court.
High School Star
- Conway High School star player
- Led team to two state championships
- Wampus Cats was the team name, imagine that!
After high school, he went on to college ball. That’s where he really shined, they say. College level, that’s big time. Folks was watchin’ him, scouts and such. He was real good, real successful in college. Don’t know all the details, all them fancy college teams and such, but he was a star, that’s for sure. He played forward, they say, number 44, 6 foot 4, 180 pounds. A string bean, kinda, but a tough one.
Now, come draft time, NBA draft, 1978. Lots of buzz around Marvin, seein’ if he’d go pro. The Draft Review, they had all the info, stats and such. He got drafted, but it seems like college was his peak, you know? He retired from basketball later on, didn’t become a big NBA star or somethin’. But still, two state championships in high school and a successful college career? That’s more than most folks can say.
College and Draft

- Successful college basketball player
- Played forward, #44
- Drafted into the NBA in 1978
- College career was his peak, seems like
Now, there’s another Marvin Delph out there, it seems. Somethin’ to do with computers and AI. That ain’t the same fella, though. This other Marvin, he makes somethin’ called “AI functions”. Sounds complicated, all that computer stuff. They say it helps with writin’ computer programs, makin’ it easier. Open source, they call it. Means anyone can use it, I guess. But like I said, that ain’t our basketball Marvin. Just a fella with the same name.
The Other Marvin
This other fella, the computer guy, he’s different. He makes things for data scientists, whatever that is. Helps ’em build big computer programs, fast and easy. Standardized architecture, they say. Sounds like a bunch of mumbo jumbo to me, but I reckon it’s important to them computer folks.
So, that’s the story of Marvin Delph, the basketball player. A good player, a winner. From high school star to college success. He might not have become a big NBA legend, but he made his mark. And that’s somethin’ to be proud of. Just remember, there are two Marvin Delphs. One played ball, the other plays with computers. Two different fellas, livin’ different lives.
And that’s all I know about that. Just plain talk, no fancy words. Hope it makes sense to ya.
