Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into golf swings lately, and Wyndham Clark’s swing is something else. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about, so I spent a good chunk of my weekend trying to break it down and, well, attempt to replicate it. Spoiler alert: it’s harder than it looks!

The Setup
First things first, I watched a ton of videos. I mean, a lot. I paused, rewound, and slow-motioned those things until my eyes practically crossed. I started by just observing his setup. He’s got this really athletic stance, slightly open, it seemed. Knees flexed, good posture – the basics, right? I tried to mimic that in front of a mirror. Felt awkward at first, to be honest, but I kept adjusting until it felt somewhat natural.
The Backswing
This is where things got interesting. His backswing is pretty unique. He keeps the club pretty close to his body. I tried to copy that takeaway, keeping my arms connected and rotating my body. My first few attempts? Let’s just say the ball didn’t go very far… or straight. I realized I was all arms and no body rotation. A total mess.
- Keep club close to body.
- Focus on body rotation, not just arms.
- It’s gonna feel weird.
The Downswing
His downswing is powerful, to say the least. He’s using the ground for leverage. I’ve seen the description that said to clear the hips and let the arms follow. I tried to visualize that, pushing off my right foot and letting my hips unwind. I felt like I was going to spin out of control! I shanked a few, topped a couple, but then… I connected with one. It felt different, more solid. Still not Wyndham Clark level, but a definite improvement.
The Follow-Through
He finishes high, fully rotated. I’m usually pretty lazy with my follow-through, but I made a conscious effort to extend my arms and rotate my body completely. It actually felt pretty good, like I was releasing all the energy. And you know what? It seemed to help with my accuracy, too.
So, after hours of practice, sore muscles, and a few bruised egos, did I master Wyndham Clark’s swing? Nope. Not even close. But did I learn something? Absolutely. It made me realize how important body rotation is, and how much power you can generate from the ground up. I’ll keep at it, I think, maybe make it my goal for the season.
