Okay, so, picture this: it’s my kid’s birthday, and, well, things are… complicated with my ex. We’re not, like, friends, but we’re trying to be civil for the kiddo, you know? But then came the cake situation. My kid wanted a very specific cake, and I’m no baker. I mean, I can whip up some cookies, but a full-on themed birthday cake? Nope.

So, first, I tried to find a bakery that could do it. I went to, like, three different places, showing them pictures and explaining the whole shebang. They either looked at me like I was crazy or quoted me some insane price. Seriously, it was a kid’s cake, not a wedding cake!
My Baking journey
That’s when I thought, “Okay, I’ll just…do it myself.” How hard could it be, right? Famous last words. I found some recipes online.I am sure I can do it.
I started gathering all the ingredients. That was an adventure in itself. I think I went to three different stores just to find everything. Then, the actual baking. Oh, boy.
- I mixed the batter.
- I baked it at 350.
- I accidentally set off the smoke alarm. Twice.
The frosting was another story. I thought I could handle it, but it ended up looking, well, let’s just say it wasn’t pretty. It was supposed to be smooth and elegant, but it was more like…lumpy and sad.

But, you know what? My kid loved it. And that’s all that mattered. Even my ex had to admit it tasted pretty good, even if it looked a little… homemade. It was a whole day of chaos, but, honestly, it was kind of fun. Would I do it again? Maybe. If my kid asked and, after I watched some more YouTube tutorials,I will do it.
