Okay, so today I decided to finally dedicate some time to catching that darn Eel in Stardew Valley. I’ve needed it for a bundle, and honestly, it was just bugging me that I hadn’t caught one yet.

Preparation is Key (Or is it?)
First, I checked the wiki – gotta know your enemy, right? I found out Eels are only out at night, and only when it’s raining. Spring or Fall. I also remembered, need level 4 fishing, I am level 8, I think I am good.
The Waiting Game
So, Spring rolls around. I spent a good chunk of the day just farming, watering my crops, the usual. Then, the minute I saw rain clouds, I was like, “Game on!” I grabbed my fishing rod, made sure I had some bait (though honestly, I’m not even sure if bait matters that much), and headed straight for the ocean.
Casting and (Lots of) Waiting
It was already getting dark, maybe around 7 PM in-game time. I found a spot on the beach, cast my line, and… waited. And waited. And waited some more. I caught a bunch of regular fish, you know, the usual suspects. Sardines, anchovies, the occasional herring. My inventory was starting to fill up, but no Eel.
The Struggle is Real
I started to get a little frustrated. It was getting late in the game, almost midnight. I was thinking, “Maybe I’m doing something wrong? Maybe I need to be in a specific spot on the beach?” I even considered if my game was bugged.
I moved around a bit, tried different spots near the pier, further down the beach… still nothing. Just more of the same fish. I almost gave up.

Finally!
Then, just as I was about to pack it in and call it a night, bam! I got a bite that felt different. The little fishing mini-game popped up, and this fish was… squirmy. It was moving in a way that was definitely not like the other fish I’d been catching. It was that distinctive up-and-down, snake-like movement. I knew it! I kept my cool, carefully kept the bar on the fish, and… YES! I pulled up an Eel!
Lessons Learned
- Patience is a virtue. Seriously, fishing for specific fish in this game can test your patience.
- Timing is everything. Rainy nights, Spring or Fall. Don’t waste your time otherwise.
- Don’t give up! Even when it feels like you’re never going to catch that one fish, keep trying. It’ll happen eventually.
Now, I can finally finish that bundle! And I have a new appreciation for just how annoying those Eels can be to catch. But hey, that’s part of the charm of Stardew Valley, right?
