Yesterday, a bunch of us were hanging out, and someone brought up the idea of making golf-themed cocktails. Sounded like a fun challenge, so I decided to give it a shot. I’m no bartender, but hey, how hard could it be, right?

First things first, I googled “golf cocktails”. I was thinking, there’s gotta be some classics out there. And, sure enough, I found a few names that kept popping up.
My First Try: The Classic
- I started by making the “John Daly.” It looked pretty simple.
- I grabbed some lemonade and iced tea.
- Then I mixed them, roughly half and half, in a tall glass.
- Finally I added a shot of vodka. I used regular, because I can’t find other special one.
- I stirred it up, threw in some ice, and… done!
It was okay, tasted like, well, spiked Arnold Palmer. I guess that’s the point, but not bad for first try!
Getting a Bit Fancy(maybe?)
Next up, I wanted to try something a little more… colorful. I found this one called the “Green Jacket”.
- This one called for some green stuff – Midori, which, luckily.
- I poured in some Midori, maybe an ounce? I just eyeballed it, to be honest.
- Then some pineapple juice – about the same amount.
- A splash of lime juice.
- And, because why not, a bit of vodka again.
I shook all that up with ice in a shaker (I borrowed from my neighbor’s, never used a tool like this before). Poured it into a glass, and yeah, it was green! Tasted pretty fruity, a little sweet. Definitely more interesting than the first one.
Experiment Time!
Feeling brave (or maybe it was the vodka), I decided to invent my own. I call it the “Rough Patch” – because, you know, golf.

- I used some bourbon this time. Seemed more “rough”.
- Mixed it with some ginger ale.
- A squeeze of lemon.
- And a dash of bitters.
Stirred it, added ice. Honestly, this one was my favorite. It had a little kick, and it tasted good. I think I have hiden talent for this!
So, that was my afternoon playing bartender. It was messy, some of the drinks were questionable, but it was fun. And hey, I learned how to make a few new drinks, and even came up with my own! Might try some more experiments next weekend. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to find a good cocktail that use beer…
