Remembering KD on the Warriors
Man, thinking back to when Kevin Durant actually went to the Golden State Warriors. I remember hearing the first whispers, you know? Right after they lost that crazy Finals series to Cleveland. I kinda brushed it off at first. Seemed nuts. Why would he leave OKC for the team that just beat him?
Then the Fourth of July happened. Boom. He actually signed. I was genuinely shocked. Like, jaw on the floor kinda moment. Spent a good while just processing it. Everyone was talking about it, non-stop. Felt like the whole basketball world just tilted.
Watching That Team
Okay, so the season starts. I made sure to catch those early games. It was weird. Seeing him in that blue and gold jersey next to Steph, Klay, and Draymond. It took some getting used to. They didn’t click perfectly right away, but you could see the potential. It was scary, honestly.
Then they started rolling. It was just… dominance. Felt like watching a video game sometimes. They were blowing teams out left and right. You knew, most nights, they were gonna win. It was impressive, sure, but sometimes it felt a bit… expected? Less drama, maybe.
- First championship run with him felt almost inevitable. They just seemed levels above everyone else.
- Second year, more bumps, but still got it done. That Houston series was tough, though.
- That third Finals run… you could feel things were different. The pressure, the injuries.
The Ups and Downs
It wasn’t all smooth sailing, obviously. There was always chatter. Was he happy? Did the other guys resent him? The whole Draymond argument on the bench, that blew up big time. Made you wonder what was really going on behind the scenes.

And then the injuries started piling up. Especially in that last playoff run. Seeing him go down with the Achilles in the Finals… horrible. Just felt gut-wrenching. You knew right then it was probably over. The whole GSW era with him.
Looking Back
He left that summer, went to Brooklyn. Can’t say I was surprised after the injury and all the drama. It felt like the natural end to that chapter.
Looking back now? It was a wild time in the NBA. That Warriors team with KD was one of the most talented ever assembled, no doubt. They won two championships. He got his rings. But it always felt a bit… complicated. Like a hired gun situation, maybe? Hard to say.
I just remember watching it all unfold. The signing, the crazy good basketball, the arguments, the injuries, the departure. It was definitely a memorable few years. Changed the league for a bit, that’s for sure. Whether it was good or bad depends on who you ask, I guess. For me, it was just something I watched happen, step by step.
