So, I finally got around to playing River Islands Golf Course down in Tennessee the other day. Been hearing bits and pieces about it, figured it was time to check it out myself.
Getting It Sorted
First thing was booking a tee time. Didn’t feel like messing with apps, just gave them a ring. The person on the phone was straightforward, got us a time for Saturday morning without any fuss. Always appreciate when that part’s easy. Tossed my clubs in the car Friday night so I wouldn’t be rushing around come morning.
The Drive and Arrival
Woke up Saturday, grabbed some coffee, and hit the road. The drive wasn’t too bad, found the place easily enough. Pulling in, it looked pretty decent, kinda nestled away. Plenty of parking, which is always a plus. Headed into the pro shop to get checked in. Staff seemed friendly, got me sorted quickly. The vibe was pretty relaxed, not too stuffy, you know?
Warming Up (Sort Of)
Had a little time before our slot, so I ambled over to the practice green. Rolled a few putts just to get a feel for the speed. Didn’t bother with the driving range – figured I’d warm up on the first couple of holes anyway. Sometimes hitting a bucket of balls just messes with my head before I even start.
Playing the Course
Alright, onto the golf itself. We teed off right on time. The course layout was interesting. It winds along the river, which makes for some nice views on a few holes. Watch out for the water, it definitely comes into play more than once. Lost a ball or two, happens to the best of us, right?
The course condition was okay. Fairways were decent, greens rolled pretty true, maybe a little quick for my liking but consistent. Some holes were tougher than others. There was one par 3 over water that really made you think. Hit a decent shot there, felt good. The pace of play wasn’t bad either, didn’t feel rushed or stuck waiting around too long between shots. Just a solid day of walking and swinging the clubs.
Wrapping Up
Finished up the 18th, felt like I’d had a proper round of golf. Didn’t break any records, but enjoyed the walk. Headed back towards the clubhouse. Didn’t stick around for food or anything this time, just wanted to get back on the road. Shook hands, loaded the clubs back in the car.
Overall, it was a good experience. River Islands is a solid course, worth playing if you’re in the area. Nothing super fancy, but it’s got character, especially with the river views. Definitely a place I could see myself playing again sometime. Just a straightforward day out on the links.
