Alright folks, lemme tell you about my deep dive into pulling off “The Michigan” in NHL 24. It ain’t as easy as those highlight reels make it look, trust me.
Step 1: Accepting the Challenge
- First off, I saw some dude online doing it effortlessly. My ego couldn’t handle it. Had to try.
- Booted up NHL 24, went straight into practice mode. No crowds, no pressure, just me and the ice.
Step 2: The Initial Fails (Oh, so many fails)
- Started watching tutorials. Button combos looked simple enough: Hold L1/LB, then flick the right stick up and over.
- Yeah, right. My guy just kept doing weird dekes. Looked like he was having a seizure on skates.
- Spent a solid hour just face-planting. My controller almost went through the TV.
Step 3: Tweak, Adjust, Repeat
- Realized timing is everything. You can’t just hold L1/LB forever. Gotta time the stick flick with the right moment when you’re near the net.
- Started focusing on positioning. Being right behind the net is key. Too far out, and you’re just flailing.
- Also, gotta have a player with decent puck control and offensive awareness. Tried it with a grinder, and it was a disaster. Switched to Matthews, much better.
Step 4: Minor Breakthroughs
- Finally got the puck to lift! Tiny victory, but a victory nonetheless.
- Still couldn’t scoop it all the way up and tuck it in. Puck kept hitting the crossbar or going wide.
Step 5: The Secret Sauce (I think)

- Started experimenting with the angle of the right stick flick. Instead of just straight up, tried a slight diagonal.
- Also, a little tap of the accelerate button (R2/RT) right before the flick seemed to give it some extra oomph.
Step 6: Success! (Finally!)
- After what felt like an eternity, I freaking did it! Clean Michigan, top shelf, celly time!
- Did it again. And again. Started feeling like Bedard himself (okay, maybe not, but still).
Step 7: Taking it to the Game
- Tried it in a real game. Got absolutely destroyed. Opponent saw it coming a mile away.
- Realized you gotta set it up. Can’t just skate in and try it randomly. Gotta create space, get the goalie moving.
- Still haven’t scored a Michigan in a real game, but I’m getting closer. It’s a work in progress.
Final Thoughts
- The Michigan is tough, man. Takes practice, patience, and a whole lot of failing.
- But when you finally pull it off, it’s one of the most satisfying things you can do in NHL 24.
- Keep grinding, keep practicing, and you’ll get there. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll become a Michigan master.
