Alright, so I got this random urge the other day to look back at the 2017 Boston Celtics roster. Don’t ask me why, just felt like a bit of nostalgia, you know? I remember that team being pretty fun to watch, even if they didn’t quite get the championship.
First thing I did, naturally, was fire up the search engine. Typed in “2017 Boston Celtics roster” and boom, there it was. A bunch of different sports sites popped up with the team list.
I started making notes, writing down the names that I remembered. Of course, there was Isaiah Thomas, the little guy was a beast that year! Then there’s Al Horford, solid as a rock. Avery Bradley, I remember him being a defensive stopper. Jae Crowder, the tough guy. Oh, and Marcus Smart, still around causing trouble.
But then I started seeing names I’d totally forgotten about. Like, who was Gerald Green again? Had to Google him to jog my memory. And Jonas Jerebko? Ringing a bell, but not a loud one.
I went through each player, checking their stats for that season. Isaiah’s numbers were insane! He was putting up crazy points. And Horford was doing everything, scoring, rebounding, passing. Really rounded out that team.
Started thinking about the games they played. Remember that playoff run? They made it to the Eastern Conference Finals, right? Went up against LeBron and the Cavs. That was a tough series. I seem to remember some real barn burners.
Then I got curious about what happened to all those guys. Where are they now? Some are still in the league, like Smart and Horford. Others have retired, or are playing overseas. It’s wild how quickly things change in the NBA.
I even started digging around for old highlight videos. Found some great clips of Isaiah making clutch shots. Man, that dude was fun to watch. I know his career went downhill after that, but he was something special that year.
Spent a good couple of hours just geeking out over that old Celtics team. It was a fun way to kill an afternoon, and it reminded me of how much I love basketball.
Thinking back, a few things really stood out:
The chemistry on that team was really good. They played hard for each other.
Isaiah Thomas was a legitimate superstar that year.
They were tough as nails, especially on defense.
Even though they didn’t win the title, that 2017 Celtics team was a memorable one. Glad I took the time to revisit it! Now I feel like watching some old games…
