My Little Adventure with MHR Rugby
Alright, so I wanted to share something I did recently. I kept hearing bits and pieces about rugby here in Montpellier, specifically about the local team, MHR – Montpellier Hérault Rugby. Wasn’t a huge rugby guy before, honestly, but you hear the name enough, you get curious, right?

So, I decided, what the heck, let’s see what it’s all about. First step was figuring out when they actually play. Jumped online, did a quick search. Found their schedule easy enough. Saw they had a home game coming up at the GGL Stadium. Never been there, so that was part of the adventure too.
Getting the Tickets
Next up, tickets. I figured it might be complicated, maybe sold out. Went to their official site – thankfully, it was pretty straightforward. Found the match, picked a section that sounded okay (not too fancy, not too cheap, you know?), and managed to buy a ticket online. Got the confirmation email, printed it out just in case. Felt pretty organized, gotta say.
Match Day Arrives
So, the day comes. Decided to head over a bit early, soak it all in. Getting to the stadium was simple enough, used the tram, which dropped off reasonably close. You could feel the buzz building as you got nearer. Lots of people wearing the team colours – blue and white. Families, groups of friends, all heading the same way.
Finding my way inside was okay. Showed my ticket, went through security. The stadium itself, GGL Stadium, it’s a decent size. Not massive like some places, but felt proper, you know? Found my section, located my seat. Good view, actually. Close enough to see the players properly but high enough to see the patterns of play.

The Game Experience
The atmosphere inside was something else. Before the game even started, the chanting, the songs… it was loud! Way louder than I expected. Everyone seemed really into it.
- The warm-ups were interesting, seeing the drills.
- Then the teams came out – big roar from the crowd.
- The game itself… well, rugby is intense! Lots of running, tackling, complex set pieces I didn’t fully understand, but it was exciting to watch.
You really get caught up in the crowd’s energy. Cheering when MHR did something good, groaning when things went wrong. Even though I wasn’t a die-hard fan, it was hard not to get involved. The passion of the supporters around me was infectious. They really live and breathe this stuff.
The whole thing lasted a couple of hours, with halftime. Grabbed a quick drink then, standard stadium stuff. The second half was just as intense.
Wrapping Up

Leaving the stadium afterwards, win or lose (I honestly forget the exact result now, wasn’t the main point for me), the feeling was just… cool. It was a proper local experience. Seeing how much the team means to the city, being part of that crowd for an afternoon. Yeah, it was definitely worth doing. Gave me a much better sense of the place. Might even go again sometime.
