Trying to Figure Out the Caddie Thing
So, I kept hearing this name, Lance Bennett, you know, the caddie. Saw him on TV a bunch, always calm, always there with his player. Got me thinking, what’s the secret sauce? What makes a guy like that so good at, well, carrying a bag and telling someone else what club to hit?

Decided I’d try and figure it out. Not like I was gonna become a pro caddie myself, ha! Just curious. Started watching old Masters footage, PGA Tour stuff where he was on the bag. Tried to really watch him, not just the golfer.
- Looked at how he walked the course.
- Tried to catch moments where he talked with his player.
- Paid attention to his body language, seemed real steady.
It wasn’t easy, cameras mostly follow the ball, right? But I picked up bits and pieces. Seemed like a lot of it was just being prepared. Knowing the course inside out, knowing the player’s tendencies. Less about magic, more about hard work beforehand.
Tried to apply some of that myself. Not on the golf course, my game’s terrible. But, like, when my buddy was prepping for this big presentation. I tried to be his ‘caddie’. Went over his slides, asked him questions I thought his boss might ask, tried to keep him calm beforehand. Just being there, you know? Thinking ahead for him a bit.
It kinda worked, actually. He did great. Made me think about how often we overlook the ‘caddies’ in our own lives. The folks in the background, doing the prep work, offering quiet support. Not always the star, but essential.
Reminds me a bit of my old man, actually. He was never the guy in the spotlight. Always behind the scenes, making sure everything ran smooth for the family. Never asked for thanks, just did the job. Like Bennett, maybe? Just focused on getting the task done, helping someone else succeed. It’s a quiet kind of strength, I guess. Took me years to really appreciate it. Funny how watching a golf caddie got me thinking about all that.
