Hey folks, let’s talk about how I tracked Marvin Bagley’s game stats last night. Wanted to see if he’s improving after that injury or not. Grabbed my laptop around 7PM, made some coffee first thing cause this might take a while.

Setting Up the Spreadsheet Mess
Opened Google Sheets and immediately messed up. Forgot to freeze the top row, scrolled down and couldn’t see the column names anymore. Such an amateur move. Fixed that, added these headers:
- Minutes played
- Field goals made/missed
- Free throws
- Big defensive plays
Tried color-coding but the colors looked like barf so I stuck with basic black text.
The Annoying Live Tracking Part
Game started at 8:30, kept pausing my stream to write stuff down. Missed three plays because my cat jumped on the keyboard. Made separate sections for each quarter – first quarter he barely touched the ball. Mostly setting screens, zero shot attempts. Weird.
Second quarter? Complete turnaround. Dude started posting up strong:
- That dunk at 6:32 mark was nasty
- Two blocks back-to-back around 3 minutes left
- Missed three easy layups though, frustrating
The Fourth Quarter Disaster
Fourth quarter rolls around and Bagley’s moving like his shoes were full of cement. Clearly gassed. Coach pulled him at 9:15 remaining after he bricked two free throws. Saw him arguing with the ref too – added that note in my “comments” column. Final stats showed he played only 23 minutes total, way less than starters.

Wrapped up around midnight feeling conflicted. Dude shows flashes but still makes basic mistakes. Gonna keep logging next game to see if patterns emerge. Maybe he needs more conditioning work? Or just bad matchup tonight? Who knows.
