Why I Dug Into Rodrigo Isgro’s Stats
People kept trash-talking Rodrigo Isgro after that derby match last Tuesday. Folks on sports radio were like “he’s washed up” and “can’t dribble anymore”. That got me wondering – are we watching the same player? So I grabbed my laptop and decided to compare stats myself.

How I Set It Up
Started simple: opened four browser tabs for player databases. Searched Isgro first, then picked three comparable wingers everybody rates higher – let’s call them Player A (the fancy dribbler), Player B (the speedy guy), and Player C (the expensive signing).
Made a spreadsheet with four columns for each category:
- Shot conversion % this season
- Successful dribbles per 90 mins
- Pass accuracy in final third
- Tackle success rate
- Key passes made
Manually typed every number from those sites – took me like two hours cause some stats were buried under annoying ads. Almost gave up when my cat walked on the keyboard and deleted half the data. Had to restart that section.
What Jumped Out Immediately
The numbers slapped me in the face! Check this:
- Isgro’s shot conversion was 18% – higher than Player A’s 12% and Player C’s 14%
- His defensive work? 2.1 tackles won per game. Player B only managed 0.8!
But here’s the crazy part: while Player A does complete more dribbles (3.7 vs Isgro’s 2.9), look at WHERE it happens. Isgro’s heatmap shows 73% of his dribbles in the attacking third versus Player A’s 42%. Means he’s taking risks where it counts.

The Misunderstanding
Think people only remember flashy moments. Player C does that one step-over per game that gets replayed constantly. Meanwhile Isgro’s quietly doing dirty work like:
- Covering for fullbacks
- Making decoy runs to open space
- Playing simple passes instead of forcing hollywood balls
Stats prove it – his turnover rate is way lower than others (1.8 per game vs Player C’s 3.5). But nobody notices clean possession.
What I Learned
You can’t trust the narrative. Went into this thinking maybe Isgro was slightly underrated, came out realizing he’s statistically outperforming these “star” wingers in fundamental categories.
Finished my spreadsheet, took a screenshot to post online. Half the comments were “but Player C looks cooler!” which proves my point – people watch highlights, not football.
TLDR: Next time someone says Isgro’s washed, ask them for the numbers. I did – and the numbers don’t lie.
