Alright, let’s gab about this Charlotte Hornets tradin’ thing, ya know? I heard they been shufflin’ players around like a deck of cards, but honestly, it’s all a bit of a muddle to me. These fellas gettin’ traded left and right, makes my head spin faster than a weathervane in a twister.

So, they got rid of this P.J. Washington fella. Big fella, he was. Sent him off to Dallas, or somethin’. And that Hayward boy, the one with the fancy hair, he’s gone too. Oklahoma City, I think. Seems like they’re cleanin’ house, gettin’ rid of the old and bringin’ in the new. Or maybe just dumpin’ salaries, who knows how these city slickers think?
- P.J. Washington traded to Dallas
- Gordon Hayward traded to Oklahoma City
Now, what did they get for ‘em? That’s the real question, ain’t it? They say they got some fellas named Grant Williams and Seth Curry from Dallas. Never heard of ‘em, but I reckon they must be ball players. And a bunch of draft picks, too. Second rounders, mostly. Don’t know if them picks are worth a hill of beans, but folks get all excited about ‘em. Hope they ain’t just trade trash for treasure, if you catch my drift.
Heard somethin’ about some other fellas comin’ in, too. Charlie Brown, Duane Washington Junior, DaQuan Jeffries… Land sakes, these names gettin’ longer and sillier every year. And a fella named Reggie Jackson, played for Denver before. Said he came off the bench, whatever that means. Guess he wasn’t good enough to start, huh? Hope he can do somethin’ for the Hornets, Lord knows they need it.
Folks are sayin’ the Hornets are “sellers,” that means they’re givin’ up good players for… well, I’m not exactly sure what for. Draft picks, mostly. And maybe some cheaper players. They sayin’ it’s ‘cause they ain’t gonna win no championship this year, so they’re plannin’ for the future. Future, future, always talkin’ about the future. What about now? Folks wanna see some winnin’ now, not next year or the year after.
This tradin’ deadline, they call it. Sounds important. Like it’s the last chance to swap players before… well, before somethin’. Maybe before the playoffs, I reckon. These city folk got their own lingo, hard for a simple woman like me to keep up. But from what I gather, this trade deadline is a big deal. Teams are tryin’ to get better, or maybe just savin’ money, or maybe just plain stirrin’ the pot.

They got these fellas callin’ themselves experts, talkin’ on the TV and writin’ in the newspapers. They sayin’ this trade was good, that trade was bad. Some sayin’ the Hornets got fleeced, some sayin’ they did alright. Truth is, nobody really knows till the games start up again. That’s when we’ll see if all this tradin’ and shufflin’ was worth a darn.
But here’s what I think, if you care to listen to an old woman’s ramblin’. Basketball is a team game, right? You can have all the fancy players in the world, but if they don’t play together, they ain’t gonna win nothin’. So, these new fellas comin’ to Charlotte, they better learn to work together, and work hard. And them fellas runnin’ the team, they better have a plan. ‘Cause just tradin’ for the sake of tradin’ ain’t gonna get you nowhere.
And another thing, these young fellas need to show some respect. Respect for the game, respect for the fans, and respect for their teammates. I don’t wanna see no showboatin’ or hotdoggin’ out there on the court. Just good, honest basketball. That’s what folks wanna see, and that’s what’ll win games.
So, we’ll just have to wait and see how it all shakes out. This Charlotte hornets trade, it could be a good thing, it could be a bad thing. Only time will tell. But one thing’s for sure, it’s got folks talkin’, and that’s somethin’. Maybe next season will be better than the last, maybe these new players will help the team improve. I hope so, for the sake of them fans that pay good money to watch ‘em play. They deserve a winner, and I hope they get one, sooner rather than later. It’s about time the Charlotte Hornets did somethin’ worth cheerin’ about.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I got to go make some supper. All this talk about basketball done made me hungry. Just hope the Hornets don’t make us all hungry for a win for too much longer.
