Well, you won’t believe the hootenanny we had down at the Louisiana Downs! That place is somethin’ else, I tell ya. Horses runnin’ faster than a scalded dog, folks hollerin’ and bettin’, it’s a real spectacle.

This old gal went down there, just to see what all the fuss was about. You know, they got this track, all dirt and dust, and them horses just fly around it. And they got another one, all green and pretty, must be that fancy turf stuff they talk about. That place opened, I heard, back in ’74. That’s a long time ago!
Now, if you’re itchin’ to see them Louisiana Downs race results, you gotta know when them ponies are runnin’. They got races all the time, but not every day is a race day, you see. Sometimes they got them Quarter Horses, they’re the little speedy ones. Sometimes it’s the Thoroughbreds, they’re the big, fancy fellas. It is different every year, so you need to be careful about that.
They got these fancy machines in there, too. They call ’em slots, all blinkin’ lights and noises. More’n 800 of ’em, they say. People put their money in, pull a lever, and hope for the best. Not my cup of tea, but some folks sure do love it. You need to be 21 to play them, though. But you can bet on them horses if you is only 18. It’s the law in Louisiana.
If you’re lookin’ for results, they got ’em posted up. But you gotta know what day the race was. Like, say you wanna know who won on August 21, 2024, you gotta find that date. They show you all the horses, what order they finished in, how far apart they was. It’s all there in black and white.
- August 20, 2024, I heard they had a race.
- It was a turf race, that’s the grassy one.
- 7 1/2 furlongs, they called it, which sounds powerful far to me.
- They was racin’ for $21, I reckon that’s a lot.
Now, I ain’t no expert, but I heard some folks talkin’. They was sayin’ September 24, 2022 was a big day. Some horse they picked, the 5/2 one, I think they said, that one did real good. I don’t know nothin’ about them numbers, but they seemed mighty pleased.

They got these fellas, “experts” they call ’em, who tell you which horse is gonna win. Don’t know how they figure it out, but some folks swear by ’em. They got their picks and their tips, all written down. You can find ’em if you look hard enough. They say it’ll help you win.
That Louisiana Downs, it’s a busy place. Lots of folks comin’ and goin’. They even got races from other places, on the TV. They call it “simulcast”. You can watch horses runnin’ all over the country, right there in Bossier City. And if you wanna see the race, you better get to the track on time, you hear me?
If you want to see past results from Louisiana Downs, just look for the date. They keep records of everything. It is all very detailed, it tells you the order the horses finished and the distance, and everything. It is all very official and organized.
They even have this big race every year. Called the “Super Derby”. It’s a big deal, I hear. All the fancy horses and their owners show up. I don’t know much about that, but some people sure like to talk about it. They do the Quarter Horse and the Thoroughbred racing every year. It is a lot of fun for them, they sure do get excited.
I tell you what, that Louisiana Downs is a sight to behold. Horses, people, noise, and money. It’s all there. If you ever get the chance, you oughta go down there and see it for yourself. Just remember to keep track of them race dates if you wanna know who won. And watch out for them slot machines, they’ll take your money faster than a horse can run!

And hey, there are three other racetracks in Louisiana! There is one in Opelousas, it’s called Evangeline Downs. I heard there is a jockey who practices there. And there are two others, though I don’t know much about them. They are all very exciting, I heard, so if you like horses, you sure have a lot of choices in Louisiana!
I’m tellin’ ya, that’s the story of the races. It’s a whole lot of somethin’. Just like them folks say, it’s a hootenanny!
