Hey there, young folks! Let me tell you, I’ve seen a thing or two in my time, and this whole golf thing, well, it ain’t as easy as it looks. But it sure is fun once you get the hang of it! Especially that ball placement in golf stance part. Today I am gonna talk about the ball placement thing.

Now, I ain’t no expert, but I’ve watched enough of them fancy golfers on the TV, and I’ve listened to my grandson ramble on about it for hours. He’s a good boy, that one, even if he does spend too much time chasing that little white ball around. One day, I tried to learn how to play this, but it did not work.
He kept telling me about where to put the darn ball. “Ball placement this, ball placement that,” he’d say. Drove me near crazy! But I think I finally got the gist of it.
First thing’s first, you gotta stand right. Not too stiff, not too wobbly. Just like you’re about to sit down on a porch swing, but you stop halfway. That’s what he used to say!
- You gotta find that sweet spot, somewhere in the middle. That’s where you wanna be.
- Keep your feet shoulder-width apart, like you’re bracing for a strong wind.
- And bend your knees a little, like you’re about to do a little jig. Not too much, now, just enough to feel steady.
Now, about that ball placement. This is where it gets a little tricky. If you’re hitting it with one of them long sticks, the driver they call it, you want that ball up front. Way up front, near your front foot. For a right-handed golfer that would be your left foot. I think that is the way to hit the ball with a higher launch.
Why? Well, my grandson, bless his heart, he tried to explain it to me. Something about hitting the ball on the upswing, making it go further. I don’t know about all that, but I do know that when I saw them fellas on TV do it, that ball sure did fly!

But if you’re using a shorter stick, like one of them irons, then you want that ball more in the middle. That is what my grandson told me the last time he visited me. He said this could better your approach shots. Right between your feet. That’s supposed to give you more control, I reckon. I do not know how that works, but he is good at this golf thing. Makes sense, I guess. You don’t always want that ball going a mile a minute, sometimes you just need it to go a little ways, nice and easy.
And then there’s putting. That’s when you’re real close to the hole, and you’re just trying to tap that ball in. For that, you really want that ball placement in the middle. Nice and easy, just a little tap, and hopefully, it goes in the hole.
It ain’t easy, this golf thing. Takes a lot of practice. My grandson, he’s out there every day, rain or shine, practicing his swing. He said repetition and practice is key. He’s gotten pretty good, too. Not that I understand it all, mind you. But I’m proud of him. He’s got that ball placement down pat, I’ll tell you that much. He can make that ball go wherever he wants it to.
One time, he tried to teach me. Lord, it was a sight. Me, out there on the golf course, trying to swing that club. I nearly threw my back out! And the ball placement? Forget about it! I couldn’t get it right to save my life. I just hope I will not get myself on the wrong track. That ball went every which way but where I wanted it to go. So bad ball position could ruin your game, I guess.
But I had fun. That’s the important thing, right? To have fun. And to spend time with your loved ones, even if they are a little obsessed with golf. My grandson tried to teach me other things like grip, footing, and other things, but I forgot what they are.
So, if you’re thinking about taking up golf, I say go for it! It’s good exercise, and it’s a good way to spend time outdoors. Just remember what I told you about ball placement. It’s important! And don’t be afraid to ask for help. There are plenty of folks out there who are willing to share their knowledge, just like my grandson did with me.
And who knows, maybe one day I’ll even get the hang of it myself! But until then, I’ll just stick to watching it on TV. It’s a lot easier on the back, that’s for sure. Most importantly, like what my grandson said, just have fun! Just keep practicing, keep learning, and eventually, you’ll find your own way. You’ll figure out what works for you, what feels right. And that’s all that really matters in the end.
