You see, this here NBA thing, they got this new thing, this “in season tournament,” they call it. I heard ’bout it on the radio. Sounds like a whole bunch of hoopla to me. But they got these special courts, all different colors, make it look all fancy-like.
They say it’s like them soccer games. You know, them fellas kicking that ball all over. They got their regular games, and then they got these special tournament things. Same idea, I reckon. Keeps things interesting, maybe. This NBA cup thing happens at the same time as the regular games. That’s what they said on the radio.
Every team, all 30 of ’em, they got a special court just for these tournament games. Every last one of them teams will play, just like last year, they said. They split ’em up into little groups, five teams in each, I think. And they play each other, four games, on special nights. “Cup Nights,” that’s what they call ’em. Fancy, huh?
Now, these courts, they ain’t your regular wood floors. No, sir. They painted ’em all over, every which way. No wood showing at all. Makes it look different, I guess. They want folks to know these games are special. They want everyone to watch, I suppose. More eyeballs, more money, that’s how it goes.

They change these floors every ten years, I hear tell. That’s what the NBA says, anyway. Ten years. That’s a long time. Longer than some folks keep a car, that’s for sure. But these floors, they take a beating, all them big fellas running and jumping.
This whole in season tournament thing, it’s supposed to be a big deal. They’re trying to make it like them soccer tournaments. Soccer’s big all over the world. Not so much here, but they play it everywhere else. Maybe the NBA wants some of that.
I don’t know if it’ll catch on. Folks like their basketball the way it is, mostly. But these new courts, they sure are something to look at. Bright colors, all flashy. Not like the old days, that’s for sure. Back then, a court was a court. Plain and simple.
These new NBA courts, they all different. Every team got their own special one. Makes it hard to keep track, I’d say. But maybe that’s the point. Keep folks guessing. Keep ’em watching. That’s what they want, I reckon. More folks watching means more money for them. Always about the money. The NBA cup is important for them.
They said this is the second year they doing this tournament. So I guess last year, it worked okay. They wouldn’t do it again if it didn’t, I suppose. They always trying new things. The NBA always do that.
