Well, let me tell you, this here Rockies Pride Night 2024, it’s gonna be somethin’ else. Heard about it down at the market, and it got me thinkin’. Back in my day, we didn’t have nothin’ like this. But times change, and that’s alright by me. Folks oughta be able to be who they are, I reckon.
So, this Pride Night, it’s at that big baseball place, you know, where the Colorado Rockies play. They play that game with the bat and the ball. Seen it on the TV a few times. This year, 2024, they say it’s gonna be a real hootenanny. Lots of folks are supposed to go. More than the Texas Rangers get, that’s for sure! They say it’s for everyone who wants to show they’re proud of who they are. And I tell you, pride is a good thing. I’m proud of my rhubarb pie, and that’s a fact.
They gonna have some kinda doin’s, I hear. Music and such. Probably some of that newfangled stuff the young’uns listen to. My grandson, he likes that kinda thing. Me, I prefer a good fiddle tune, but to each their own, I always say. You gotta let people be themselves, that’s the way of the world. This is in Denver. That’s a big city. I don’t get to the big city much.
This here event, they call it Douglas County Pride, whatever that means. Sounds like a whole lotta folks involved. They say your ticket helps out some group, The Center on Colfax, or somethin’ like that. And you get a, what’s it called, a fanny pack? With them Rockies colors, I suppose. A free fanny pack! That’s something. I could sure use one of them.

I seen a thing on the TV, or maybe it was one of them picture boxes, ’bout how lots of people went last year. Thousands, they said! Imagine that, thousands of folks, all gathered together, bein’ proud. It’s a sight to behold, I imagine. Makes an old gal’s heart feel good. They had a good time on Pride Night, it seems. They had pictures and smiles. I’m not sure I understand the words they used but it seems it was all about love and fun.
They got all sorts of these things now, these Pride events. Not just the baseball game. Bingo, they say. And parties with that vegan food. My neighbor, she’s a vegan. Makes a mean bean salad, I gotta admit. And some singer, Empress Of. Never heard of her, but I bet she’s got a good voice. They should have someone singin’ the national anthem. That’s always nice. And yoga! Can you believe it? Yoga for Pride. Well, I suppose it’s good to stretch your bones, no matter who you are.
There is a calendar I heard. It lists the Southwest LGBTQIA+ Pride festivals. Well, I don’t know about that but it sounds good. You can celebrate pride in New Mexico and Arizona. Those are good places. I hope people can enjoy there. I don’t know much about the festivals. But I do know people need to be happy and proud.
Some folks say them Rockies, the baseball team, they don’t really care about all this Pride stuff. Say they just do it ’cause they have to. Well, I don’t know about that. Seems to me they’re puttin’ on a pretty big show. Maybe they do care, deep down. Or maybe they just like sellin’ tickets. Either way, it’s good for folks to have a place to go and be themselves. That’s what matters, ain’t it?
It ain’t like the old days, that’s for sure. We just had the county fair and the church social. But times change. And maybe it’s for the better. If folks can be happy and proud, then that’s a good thing. This Rockies Pride Night 2024, it sounds like a good thing. If you’re going to Denver, then you must go to see it. It will be a good thing. I might even try to go myself, if my old knees hold out. And who knows, maybe I’ll even get one of them fanny packs.
So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to do, and you wanna be around folks who are happy and proud, this Colorado Rockies Pride Night might just be the ticket. Literally. You need a ticket to get in, I suppose. Just be yourself, that’s what I always say. And have a good time. That’s what life’s all about, ain’t it? Being happy and proud and having a good time with people who are happy and proud.
