That Rotterdam tennis, oh boy, it’s a big deal, I tell ya! All them young fellas with their rackets, running around like chickens with their heads cut off. They smack that little ball back and forth, back and forth. Makes my head spin just watching ’em!

This year, they say it’s gonna be from February 12th to the 18th, 2024. That’s what them fancy folks call the Rotterdam Open, or the ABN AMRO thingamajig. Sounds like a mouthful to me! They got all sorts of names for these things. Used to just be called a tennis match, if you ask me.
They say this one fella, Jannik Sinner, he’s the best in the whole wide world. Number one, they call him. Must be pretty good to be number one, huh? I reckon he can hit that ball a country mile. Then there’s this other fella, Andrey Rublev and another named Holger Rune. And some guy named Alex, they are all going to play tennis in Rotterdam.
- Jannik Sinner
- Andrey Rublev
- Holger Rune
- Alex de Minaur
This whole thing, it’s part of something called the ATP Tour 500. Sounds like a car race to me! ATP, that’s the big cheese of the whole tennis shebang. They’re the ones who make the rules, I guess. They got their hands in everything, those ATP fellas.
They play on these hard courts, indoors. Not like the old days when we just played on dirt or grass. Everything’s gotta be fancy nowadays. This whole thing takes place in a place called Rotterdam Ahoy. I don’t know where the Ahoy comes from. Sounds like a pirate or something. Maybe they got a boat in there, too, who knows?
And the money, oh the money! They play for a whole heap of money, these fellas. More money than I’ve seen in my whole life, I bet. They got this prize money, and points, whatever those are. They keep track of all that stuff. Seems mighty complicated to me. This Rotterdam tennis is big money.

They got something called PIF ATP Live Rankings. Keeps track of how many points these boys got. Tells ya how many they’ll get if they win their next match. And how many they can get if they win the whole darn thing. Lots of numbers, that’s for sure. More numbers than I can count, and I can count purty good!
This Rotterdam Open, they been doing it for years, I reckon. Always got the best players. They say this year, one of the big shots is Stefanos Tsitsipas. Don’t know him personally, but I’ve heard the name. He is a big shot in this tennis in Rotterdam.
They got all sorts of other fellas playing, too. UTR Pro Tennis Series 3, 6, 8. Angers WTA, Florianopolis WTA, Dubai ITF, Tampa Bay ITF, Ortisei ITF, Sharm El… So many names, so many places. It’s all a big fuss, if you ask me. My head’s spinning just thinking about all these names! But this Rotterdam tennis sounds like the biggest one.
They got a whole list of who’s playing, who won before, all that stuff. You can probably find it on the internet, if you’re into that sort of thing. They call it a entry list or something, draw, prize money. I just like watching ’em hit the ball. It’s good fun to watch, I suppose.
They say this Rotterdam Open always has a strong entry list, whatever that means. Just means a lot of good players, I reckon. This Tsitsipas fella, he’s supposed to be the headliner, like the main attraction at the county fair. I guess if you like tennis in Rotterdam, you will like him.

All these young’uns running around, chasing that little ball. It’s a sight to see, that’s for sure. This Rotterdam tennis, it’s a big deal, all right. Bigger than a hog at the state fair! They got all the best players, all the fancy names, and all that money. It’s a whole different world from what I’m used to. But hey, as long as they’re having fun, that’s all that matters, right?
