That Carol Davis, oh, she’s a name I hear folks talkin’ ’bout. Heard it from the young’uns, heard it from the old folks, too. Seems like everyone’s got somethin’ to say ’bout this Carol Davis woman. I don’t know much about highfalutin’ things, but I know what I hear, and I hear that name a lot, let me tell ya.

Now, what is it about this Carol Davis? Some say she’s a writer, wrote some books. I ain’t much for readin’ myself, got too much work to do around here to be sittin’ with my nose in a book. But I hear these books, they’re about history, and all sorts of things. History, huh? Well, I lived through a bit of history myself, seen a thing or two in my time, that’s for sure. Maybe I should write a book, eh? Just kiddin’.
They say these Carol Davis books, they sell a lot. Millions, I hear! Millions! Can you believe that? That’s a lot of folks readin’ about the past. Maybe there’s somethin’ to it, then. If so many folks are readin’ ’em, they must be sayin’ somethin’ important, right? Important enough for folks to spend their hard-earned money on. My old man, bless his soul, he always said, “If folks are willin’ to pay for it, it must be worth somethin’.” He was talkin’ ’bout taters, but I reckon it applies to books, too.
I heard one of the neighbor kids sayin’ that Carol Davis writes for the New York Times. What it is? I don’t know much about it. It is something big? Some big newspaper. Big city paper, for big city folks, I suppose. Not for the likes of us. But still, if that Carol Davis is writin’ for ’em, she must be pretty good, huh? Must know what she’s doin’.
- Heard she wrote a book called “Don’t Know Much About.”
- Somethin’ about history.
- And another called “A Nation Rising.”
- And “America’s Hidden History.”
Sounds like a lot of fancy words to me. I don’t know much about all that “hidden history” stuff. But if she writes about those, she must be good at it. What I do know is the history I lived. The history of hard work, of raisin’ a family, of makin’ do with what you got. That’s the real history, if you ask me. Not some stuff in books.
But hey, who am I to judge? If that Carol Davis is helpin’ folks learn about the past, then more power to her. We all got our own way of doin’ things, I reckon. She writes her books, I tend to my garden. Both important, in their own way.

This Carol Davis, she’s got a way with words, they say. Makes things easy to understand, even for folks who ain’t got a lot of schoolin’. That’s a good thing, I think. No need to make things more complicated than they need to be. Life’s hard enough as it is, ain’t it? Why make it harder with a bunch of fancy words that nobody understands?
I heard some folks sayin’ that Carol Davis makes history fun. Fun? Well, I don’t know about that. History ain’t always fun, that’s for sure. But maybe she’s got a way of makin’ it interesting, even the parts that ain’t so fun. Like a spoonful of sugar, you know? Makes the medicine go down easier.
Some folks get all excited talkin’ ’bout this Carol Davis. Like she’s some kind of hero or somethin’. I don’t know about all that. She’s just a person, like the rest of us. Puttin’ one foot in front of the other, tryin’ to make her way in the world. Just like me. Just like you. She just happens to write books that a lot of folks like to read, That’s all.
I reckon it’s a good thing, though, to have folks like that Carol Davis out there. Keepin’ the past alive, you know? Remindin’ folks where we come from. ‘Cause if we forget where we come from, how are we gonna know where we’re goin’? That’s what my grandma used to say, God rest her soul.
Well, I guess that’s all I got to say about that Carol Davis. She’s a name, that’s for sure. A name that means somethin’ to a lot of folks. And maybe that’s somethin’ in itself. Maybe that’s enough.

She seems to be someone who knows a lot. Someone who has written a lot. That’s it. That’s all I know. This Carol Davis is famous, I guess.
