Today was a real pain in the neck. I decided to tidy up the horse stable, and let me tell you, it turned into a complete mess. The title of this episode is “Mess Horse.”

So, I started this morning thinking it would be a quick job. I grabbed a broom, a pitchfork, and a wheelbarrow, you know, the usual stuff. The plan was simple: scoop out the dirty hay, sweep up the sawdust, and dump it all in the wheelbarrow. Easy peasy, right? Wrong.
As soon as I got in there, I realized it was way worse than I thought. There was water everywhere, like, actual puddles under the horse’s bucket. That horse, she’s a messy eater, I swear. I spent a good chunk of time just soaking up that mess with some old towels.
- First, I tackled the wet spots.
- Then I moved on to the usual routine.
Mucking out the stall is never fun, but this was next level. I was shoveling and sweeping, and the dust was getting everywhere. My back was killing me by the time I finished that part.
After I finally got rid of all the dirty stuff, I had to sanitize the whole area. I used some kind of cleaning spray, scrubbed everything down, and then rinsed it all off. That at least made it smell a bit better.
The final step was putting down fresh hay. I spread it all around, trying to make it nice and comfy for the horse.

What I learned
I also had to give the horse a quick clean-up. I used a bucket of soapy water and a sponge for the muddy spots. It’s important to be gentle around their faces, so I took my time with that. Honestly, I don’t do this often, just when it gets really bad.
By the end of it all, I was exhausted and covered in dirt. But hey, at least the stable is clean now, and the horse seems happy. It’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it, right? Next time, I’m definitely wearing older clothes, maybe even a mask because of all the dust.
This whole experience reminded me that there’s always something to do when you have horses. From cleaning their stalls to keeping their tack tidy, it’s a never-ending cycle. But, you know what? I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
I know there’re people online who’re like “keep it dry, keep it clean”. I think, it is not a big deal. Just do it when I think it is needed. They said: “Monitoring your horse’s habits is the best way to determine how often you should be cleaning your barn.” Maybe they’re right, I should keep an eye on my horse.
There is another thing, they said:”Deodorize and neutralize odors in your stall.” I don’t even know what does that mean. I just use water and a broom, that’s it.

They also said: “easy keepers”, “draft horse breeds”. I don’t understand what they are talking about. They sound like some professional things.
There was one time, I was feeding the horses, and this guy came up to me, all serious, asking about what I fed them. He went on and on about “balanced diets” and “nutritional needs.” I just shrugged and said, “They eat hay, they seem fine.” He looked at me like I was crazy.
Anyway, just wanted to share my little adventure from today. Hope you all had a less messy day than I did!
