Okay, so the title for today is “Dusty Baker.” Let me tell you, this guy’s a legend in baseball, and I’ve spent the last few days diving deep into his career. I started off by just Googling his name, you know, the usual. I got the basic stuff first, like when he started playing and managing.

Then I wanted to see what teams he’d been with. It’s a pretty long list, turns out. This guy’s been around! I made a list in my notebook:
- San Francisco Giants
- Chicago Cubs
- Cincinnati Reds
- Washington Nationals
- Houston Astros
He has managed all these teams! It’s crazy. So I started looking up his record with each team, trying to get a sense of how he did. I jotted down some notes about his wins and losses, which divisions he won, you know, that kind of stuff.
I was pretty blown away to find out he’s the first manager to lead five different teams to division titles. Five! That’s seriously impressive. I wrote that down in big letters in my notebook, so I wouldn’t forget. Also, he is the first African American manager who has 2,000 victories. What a great milestone!
Then I stumbled upon this story about him and the high five. Apparently, he’s credited with inventing it back in the ’70s when he was playing for the Dodgers. He did it with his teammate Glenn Burke. I thought that was a pretty cool little tidbit, so I wrote that down too, with a little star next to it. I watched a few videos on YouTube about it, pretty interesting stuff.
Next, I focused on his time with the Astros, since that was his most recent gig. I read a bunch of articles about his last few years there. I even found a quote from him thanking the Astros owner, Jim Crane, which I thought was pretty classy. I copied that quote into my notes: “I would first like to say thank you to [Astros owner] Jim Crane and family for giving me this opportunity over the last four years.”

I spent a good chunk of time reading through comments on different baseball forums. Man, people have strong opinions about this guy! But mostly, it was a lot of respect and admiration for his long career and everything he’s accomplished.
Finally, I found out he’s going back to the Giants as a special adviser. I guess he can’t stay away from the game! I made a note of that, completing my little research project on Dusty Baker. It’s been a fun few days learning about this baseball icon. This experience really impressed me a lot!
