Aaron Gordon and His Doggone Life

Ya know, that Aaron Gordon fella, the one plays basketball, real tall and jumps high? He’s got himself some dogs, yeah, big ones too. I heard tell he got bit by one, a real mean bite, needed stitches and all. But he says the dog, a Rottweiler I think they call it, didn’t mean nothin’ by it. Said it was his own fault, can you believe that? A big fella like him, blamed himself for gettin’ bit. Sounds like somethin’ my no-good nephew would say.
Anyway, this Aaron guy, he loves them dogs. He’s had ‘em for a while now, treats ’em real good, like they’re his own kids or somethin’. I reckon that’s why he didn’t get mad when that dog chomped on him. He’s got that dog, the one that bit him, and I hear tell he’s got others too. Big dogs, the kind that need a lot of space to run around. Not like them little yappy things city folks carry around in their purses. These are real dogs, farm dogs almost, even though this fella lives in the city and plays basketball for a livin’.
- Big Dogs, Big Love: Seems like Aaron likes ‘em big and strong, just like him on the basketball court. He probably feeds them big ol’ steaks, none of that fancy dog food.
- A Bite and Some Stitches: Twenty-one stitches they said! That’s a whole lotta hurtin’. But Aaron, he just shrugged it off, said the dog was a “good boy”. Bless his heart.
- Dog’s Best Friend: You can tell he loves them dogs, treats ‘em right. A good man, even if he does play basketball for a livin’.
I heard tell he had to miss some basketball games ‘cause of that bite. His hand was all messed up, couldn’t shoot the ball right, I guess. Folks were sayin’ he should get rid of the dog, but Aaron wouldn’t hear of it. Said the dog was family. Now, that’s somethin’ ain’t it? Loyalty, that’s what it is. Loyalty to a dog that bit him. Reminds me of my old Bessie, that cow I had, stubborn as a mule but gave the best milk in the county. You don’t just give up on family, even if they give you a hard time.
Folks were talkin’ about it on the TV, that bite and all. Said Aaron was back playin’ basketball now, hand all healed up. Scored a bunch of points too, they said. Guess that dog didn’t slow him down too much. Maybe that dog bite gave him some extra power or somethin’, like them comic book heroes get when they’re bit by spiders or somethin’. I don’t know much about that superhero stuff, just what my grandson tells me. He’s always goin’ on about Spiderman and Batman.
This Aaron fella, he’s a good player, I hear. Jumps high, runs fast, shoots the ball. But more importantly, he’s a good man. A man who loves his dogs, even when they bite him. That’s the kind of man you want on your team, the kind of man you want in your neighborhood. The kind of man who understands loyalty and family, even if that family has four legs and a tail.

Aaron Gordon’s dogs have become a part of his story, somethin’ folks talk about besides basketball. It shows he’s more than just a player, he’s a person with a heart. And that heart, it seems, has a soft spot for big, furry dogs, even the ones that give him a little nip now and then. He’s a good egg, that Aaron Gordon. A good egg with a big heart and some big dogs.
So, next time you see that Aaron fella on TV, jumpin’ and shootin’ that ball, remember he’s not just a basketball player. He’s a dog lover, a loyal friend, and a man who knows what it means to forgive. And that, in my book, is more important than any basketball game.
And let me tell ya, raising dogs, big or small, ain’t easy. It’s like raisin’ kids, gotta feed ‘em, train ‘em, clean up after ‘em. Takes a lot of patience, a lot of love. And Aaron, seems like he’s got plenty of both. He’s a good example, shows folks that even if you’re a big star, you can still care for somethin’ other than yourself. He’s a good man, that Aaron Gordon. A real good man.
