Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to get my horse to chill out and seem happier for a while now. I mean, who doesn’t want a happy horse, right? So I did some digging and put some things into practice. Here’s how it went down.

First off, I made sure my horse, let’s call him Buddy, had all the basics covered. You know, the simple stuff that sometimes we forget about. I started by double-checking his living situation. Plenty of fresh water at all times? Check. I even cleaned out his water trough more often ’cause who wants to drink from a dirty bucket?
Good food was next on my list. I ensured Buddy was getting top-notch hay. And I started varying things a bit, mixing it up so he wouldn’t get bored.
- Fresh water available at all times
- High-quality hay
- Space to roam around
Then, I thought about his movement. Horses need to move, it’s in their nature. Buddy had a decent turnout, but I started letting him out even more. I noticed he seemed more relaxed after a good run around. We are talking about a happy horse here, and seeing him move freely was an important step for me. He needed more time out there to get some energy out and be a horse, you know?
Making Him Comfortable
Next, the not-so-fun but super important parts. Feet, teeth, and shots. I scheduled a visit with the farrier to make sure Buddy’s hooves were in tip-top shape. No one’s happy with sore feet. Then, a date with the vet to check his teeth and make sure he was up to date on all his vaccinations. These things aren’t always obvious, but man, do they make a difference. Healthy horse, happy horse, that’s what I always say. It’s like when we go to the doctor for a checkup; it’s not always fun, but we feel better afterward, right?
The last thing I focused on was just chilling with Buddy. I started spending more time just hanging out with him, grooming him, and talking to him. I swear, he started to respond. His face seemed softer, especially around his mouth. It was like he was smiling sometimes, you know, that relaxed, happy look horses get. It made me happy to see him so relaxed.

So, yeah, that’s my little journey to a happier horse. It wasn’t rocket science, just paying attention to the basics and spending quality time. Seeing Buddy happy and relaxed makes all the effort worthwhile. It’s all about the little things, right?
