I’ve been playing tennis for a while now, and these days I’m all in. I mean, I’m totally hooked! It all started pretty casually. A buddy of mine asked if I wanted to hit the courts one weekend, and I thought, “Why not?” I hadn’t played since I was a kid, but it seemed like a fun way to get some exercise. Little did I know, this would turn into a full-blown obsession.

First few times out, I was just trying to remember the basics. Serve, forehand, backhand – it all came flooding back slowly. My friend, who’s way better than me, was patient enough, giving me tips and pointers. We played a few sets, and even though I got crushed, I felt this rush I hadn’t felt in years. It was like, “Man, I wanna get better at this!”
So, I started playing more regularly. Found a local club, signed up for some lessons with a coach. Coach was tough, he pushed me hard, but in a good way. My groundstrokes started getting more consistent, my serve got some actual power behind it, and I even learned how to hit a decent volley. It felt great to see actual improvement with every session.
Then came the gear. Oh boy, the gear! I started with just a basic racket, but then I got sucked into the world of tennis gear. New rackets, new shoes, fancy strings – you name it, I probably tried it. It is not about performance, just because I enjoy the feeling of getting new gear. It’s ridiculous, I know, but it’s part of the fun for me.
I started watching pro matches more closely, too. Before, it was just something that was on in the background. But now, I was paying attention to their techniques, their strategies, their footwork. It was like, “How do they do that?!” It’s amazing how much you can learn just by watching the pros.
Here’s the thing, though – it’s not just about getting better. It’s about the whole experience. The people I’ve met, the friends I’ve made. It’s like a whole community, and everyone’s so supportive of each other. Even when you lose, it’s not a big deal. There’s always another match, another chance to improve.

Now I started joining some local tournaments. It’s a whole different level of intensity. I don’t think I am good enough, but it feels like another step forward. Lost more than I won, but each match was a learning experience. You really see where your weaknesses are when you’re up against someone who’s trying their hardest to beat you.
My Mindset Now
I’ve realized that I need to work on my mental game, too. It’s not just about hitting the ball; it’s about staying focused, staying positive, even when things aren’t going your way. I try to see every match, every practice session as a chance to grow, to push myself a little bit harder.
- View every match as a challenge.
- Focus on improving, not just winning.
- Stay positive, even when losing.
- Learn from every experience.
And you know what? I am enjoying this process. I really am. It’s a challenge, it’s frustrating at times, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. I don’t know how far I’ll go with this tennis thing, but one thing’s for sure – I’m all in. I’m living and breathing tennis, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
So, yeah, that’s my tennis story. It’s not about becoming a pro or anything like that. It’s just about finding something I love, something that pushes me, something that makes me feel alive. And who knows, maybe I’ll see you out on the court sometime. If you see a guy with a goofy grin, missing easy shots but having the time of his life, that’s probably me. Game on!
