Okay, so I finally got around to spending some real time with Payday 3, wanted to share what I found with the characters.

Getting Started and Seeing Familiar Faces
First thing I did, obviously, was jump into the game and get ready for some heisting. Right away, I went to check out the crew selection. It felt pretty good seeing the old gang there. You know, Dallas, Hoxton, Chains, and Wolf. They look a bit different, updated for the new game graphics and all that, but it’s definitely them. Seeing those iconic masks again really brought back the feeling of the older games.
Dallas is still Dallas, the kinda leader figure. Hoxton has that same attitude, you can just tell. Chains looks tough as ever, the muscle. And Wolf… well, Wolf still seems a bit unhinged, which is perfect.
Checking Out the New Blood
Then I noticed there were a couple of new additions to the crew. Pearl and Joy. I hadn’t really followed all the pre-release stuff super closely, so this was my first proper look at them in the game itself.
- Pearl: She seemed pretty professional, kinda focused. Definitely looked like she knew her way around a heist.
- Joy: She gave off a more techy, maybe younger vibe with her look. Seemed like an interesting addition to the dynamic.
Trying Them Out
So, my next step was to actually play as them. I started with Dallas, gotta go with the classic first, right? Felt familiar, heard his voice lines calling out, it was like slipping back into an old routine. Then I switched it up.
I gave Hoxton a run, then Chains, then Wolf. It was mostly about soaking in the updated looks and hearing their voices in the new scenarios. They all felt solid, like the characters I remembered.

Then I decided to try the new ones. Played a heist as Pearl. She felt competent, fit right in. Then I tried Joy. Her style is definitely different, visually, but she worked well within the team during the actual gameplay. Honestly, after trying them all out for a bit, I realized the characters themselves don’t really change how you play in terms of skills or anything major like that. It’s more about who you want to look at and listen to while you’re playing.
For me, it’s just cool having the original crew back together after all this time. The new characters, Pearl and Joy, they fit in fine. Took a little getting used to seeing new masks in the crew, but they work. I found myself mostly sticking with Dallas or Chains out of habit, but it’s nice having the option to switch things up with the new faces too. It adds a bit of fresh flavor to the same core Payday experience.
