Alright, let’s talk about this fella, Andrés Ibargüen. Don’t know much about fancy soccer talk, but I’ll tell ya what I know.

This Ibargüen guy, Andrés Felipe Ibargüen García, they call him, was born way back in 1992, May 7th to be exact. That makes him, what, about 32 years old now? He’s from Cali, Colombia, a place I ain’t never been, but sounds warm. He’s a soccer player, a forward they say, meaning he’s the one tryin’ to kick the ball into the net. Kinda like in my day, we just called it “kickin’ the ball towards the barn door,” but these youngsters got their fancy names for everything.
He’s not a big fella, only about 5 foot 6 or so, but I guess that don’t matter much in soccer. Speedy little fella, probably. He plays for this team, Deportivo Pereira, in Colombia’s top league, the “Categoría Primera A,” whatever that means. Sounds important, though.
Now, this boy, he’s been around the block, playin’ for different teams. Started out with Cortuluá back in 2011, then went to Bogotá FC, where he did real good, they say. That got him a spot on Deportes Tolima, and then, well, he won somethin’ big.
The big win, that was the Copa Libertadores in 2016 with Atlético Nacional. Big deal, that one. Like winnin’ the county fair pie contest, but way bigger, I reckon. Lots of folks cheerin’, probably got a nice trophy too. He must’ve been real proud, and his ma too, I bet.
- Started at Cortuluá in 2011
- Played for Bogotá FC
- Went on to Deportes Tolima
- Won the Copa Libertadores with Atlético Nacional in 2016
- Currently plays for Deportivo Pereira
And speaking of important things, he even got called up to play for the Colombian national team in 2019. Went over to Europe for some friendlies, games that don’t really count for much, but still a big honor, I hear. Played against Chile and Algeria. Bet that was somethin’ special, representin’ your whole country.

This year, 2024, he’s been playin’ a lot. Thirty games, they say, and scored five goals. Not bad, not bad at all. Keeps him busy, I guess. Better than sittin’ around, watchin’ the grass grow, that’s for sure.
You can find all sorts of stuff about him online, if you know where to look. Stats, they call ’em, how many games he played, how many goals he scored, all that jazz. They even got his height and weight listed, like he’s a prize-winning hog at the county fair. Times sure have changed.
So, that’s the story of Andrés Ibargüen, as best as I can tell ya. A soccer player from Colombia, won a big championship, played for his country. Seems like a good boy, workin’ hard and doin’ what he loves. Reminds me of my grandson, always runnin’ around with that ball. Maybe one day he’ll be famous too, ya never know.
Anyways, that’s all I got on this Ibargüen fella. Hope it was useful to ya, or at least a little entertainin’. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my stew.
