So, I was playing Baldur’s Gate 3 the other day, right? And I got to this part in Act Three where there’s this circus with a bunch of animals locked up in cages. One of them is a poor creature called Shadow Whiskers, and I really wanted to set it free. I found this key called the “Beast Cage Key,” a little iron thing, and figured it would do the trick.
Well, guess what? It didn’t! I tried everything. I clicked on the cage door a million times, but it just wouldn’t open. Other keys in the game worked just fine, but this one, nope, nada.
I even tried some of the other vault keys I’d been collecting, like keys 1 and 6, but they didn’t work on the cages. I checked every single vault, thinking maybe I was using the wrong key on the wrong door, but nothing. I started to think I was going crazy! I started talking to the screen like, “Come on, little key, open the darn door!” It was ridiculous.
Then, those doppelgangers in the circus decided to release the other animals to attack me, can you believe it? It felt like the game was just messing with me at that point. So, I did what any reasonable person would do – I started messing around with the game settings.
I went into the keybindings and hit “Reset to Defaults.” I figured, maybe I accidentally changed something without realizing it. And you know what? After I did that, the Escape key, which wasn’t working right either, started working normally again.
So I went back to the cage, key in hand, heart pounding with hope. And… it still didn’t work! I was so frustrated. Maybe it was a bug? Or maybe the developers fixed something in a patch, and that’s why the Escape key started working, but the cage key was still broken? I don’t know. But the key wouldn’t open the cage. At least the Escape key worked after resetting to defaults, I can’t explain why. Maybe I did something without noticing it.
I even tried using Serrick’s chest key, thinking maybe there was some connection. But no luck. At this point, I’m pretty sure it’s just a bug. I’ve seen other people online having the same problem, so at least I’m not alone in my frustration.
- Tried resetting keybindings to default: Escape key worked, but the Beast Cage Key still didn’t.
- Tried other vault keys: None of them worked on the cages.
- Tried Serrick’s chest key: Still no luck.
So yeah, that’s my story. I hope the developers fix this soon because I really want to free that poor creature, Shadow Whiskers. It’s driving me nuts! Anyone else encountered this? Let me know if you found a solution because I’m all ears!
