Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with my driver lately, trying to get that perfect ball flight and distance. You know, the whole “tee it high and let it fly” thing. I heard some folks talking about ball placement, and I thought, “Why not give it a shot?”

So, I went out to the range, armed with my trusty driver and a bucket of balls. I started with my usual setup – ball just inside my left heel. I hit a few, and they were okay, you know, nothing to write home about.
Then, I remembered reading somewhere that moving the ball back a bit could help with trajectory. So I did, just a little. After I hit a few more, the ball seemed to get more penetrating flight, I guess.
Next, I tried going further back, kind of like you’d do with a fairway wood, just for kicks. It wasn’t good. I was hitting down on the ball too much, and it was going way too low, or I was topping it. Not pretty.
Experimenting with ball position
- Position 1: Ball inside left heel – My usual setup, produced decent results but nothing spectacular.
- Position 2: Moved slightly back – Noticed a more penetrating ball flight, which was interesting.
- Position 3: Further back (like a fairway wood) – Disaster! Low shots and topped balls galore.
After all that, I went back to my original position, inside the left heel. I guess that’s my sweet spot for now. But hey, it was a fun little experiment, and I learned a bit more about my swing and how ball position can affect things. Keep swinging, folks!
