Alright, so I’ve been wanting to pick up some Spanish for a while now, and I finally decided to take the plunge. I figured, why not document my journey and maybe help some folks out there who are also thinking about learning Spanish?

First, I downloaded a few of those flashcard apps. You know, the ones with all the basic vocabulary like “Recently” and “Immediately.” I also found this one called “Spanish 2 Realidades 2B vocab.” Seemed pretty legit with all its games and stuff.
I spent a couple of days just drilling those words into my head. It was kind of boring, to be honest, but I knew I had to start somewhere. I also came across this “CBE CR/A Study Guide.” I guess it’s supposed to prep you for some kind of Spanish exam, but it looked useful for getting an idea of what I needed to learn.
After messing around with those apps, I decided to get a bit more serious. I signed up for some online course – I think it was called “Spanish: From Beginner to Bilingual” or something like that. It promised to get me speaking Spanish like a native in no time. The course had me working on basic phrases like the ones you might use at home, which I thought was pretty practical.
Then there was this other program I stumbled upon. It was all about this “intensive, proficiency-oriented, and task-based approach.” Sounds fancy, right? Well, it was intense, I’ll give them that. It basically threw me into real-life scenarios and forced me to figure out how to communicate. It also had some sections on reading and writing, which were a bit tough at first, but I slowly got the hang of it.
And, of course, I used a translation app to look up words I didn’t know. I wanted to know how to say “build up” in Spanish, and it gave me like 14 different options! There were example sentences and audio pronunciations, which were super helpful.

I even browsed through some local classifieds – you know, like those on Craigslist – just to see Spanish in a more casual setting. There were listings for jobs, housing, and all sorts of stuff. It was interesting to see how people actually use the language in their everyday lives.
So, yeah, that’s been my journey so far. It’s been a mix of flashcards, online courses, translation apps, and even some Craigslist browsing. I’m still a long way from being fluent, but I’m definitely making progress. I can string together some basic sentences, and I’m starting to understand more than I expected.
It’s not easy, but it’s definitely doable. Just gotta keep at it, you know? If I can do it, anyone can!
