Okay, so, I’ve been playing soccer for a while now, and I’ve always just kinda gone with whatever shin guards I could find. But I recently measured myself, and I’m 5’1. I saw these medium-sized shin guards at the store the other day, and I was like, “Hmm, can I actually wear these?”

So, I did what anyone would do – I started digging around. First, I just checked out the packaging of the shin guards themselves. Some of them had these size charts based on height, but not all of them did. Then, I went online and looked at a few different brand’s websites and their size charts. I found a lot of charts and guides, which was pretty helpful. Some brands size their shin guards by age, but most use height, which is what I needed. I also measured my shin, like, from just below my knee to the top of my ankle, just to be sure.
From what I gathered, it’s all about the length of your shin and your height. Most guides say that shin guards should cover from a bit above your ankle to a couple of inches below your knee. It’s also important they fit snugly but aren’t too tight, you know? And they shouldn’t be poking out too much.
So, after looking at all this, I realized that for someone who’s 5’1, medium shin guards might actually work. According to a bunch of the size charts I saw, the medium size is usually recommended for heights around 4’7″ to 5’3″, give or take. It seems like I’m right in that range. Of course, I know it’s not just about the size on the label. It also depends on the specific brand and how they make their shin guards. Some might run a bit bigger or smaller.
Trial and Error
I ended up trying on a few different pairs of medium shin guards. Some felt pretty good, fitting snugly without being too constricting. But others were either too long, going too high up my knee, or too short, not covering enough of my shin. It was a bit of trial and error, honestly.
Finally, I found a pair that seemed to fit just right. They covered most of my shin, didn’t feel too tight, and didn’t slide around when I moved. I even did a few practice kicks and runs in the store – yeah, I probably looked a little weird, but whatever. They felt comfortable, and that’s what matters, right?

- Measure Your Shin: I measured my shin from just below the knee to above the ankle.
- Consult Size Charts: Checked size charts from different brands.
- Try Them On: Tried on several pairs to find the best fit.
- Test Them Out: Did some movements to ensure they stay in place and are comfortable.
So, yeah, it turns out a 5’1 person like me can wear medium shin guards. You just gotta make sure to check the size charts, measure your shin, and, most importantly, try them on to see how they actually feel.
