Well, I hear tell that that Carl Edwards fella, he up and won somethin’ big in Memphis. Memphis, you say? That’s a long way from here, ain’t it? He was always a good boy, that Carl. Always goin’ fast. I reckon he’s still goin’ fast, just in them race cars now.

They say he won some big race. Now, I don’t know much about them NASCAR races, but I know they go round and round real fast. He must be good at it to win. Good for him, I say. That boy always did have a fire in his belly. Always gotta be the best at everything.
They say he started way back in that race, somethin’ like thirty-fourth, I hear tell. But he got himself to the front, just like he always did. He’s won the NASCAR series title before, that’s what I hear. That was some years ago now, in two thousand and seven, wasn’t it?
This Carl Edwards, he drove that number 60 Ford. Ford’s a good car. My nephew, he’s got a Ford. Drives it all over. Says it never lets him down. This race, it was called the Kroger 250. Sounds important, don’t it? Lots of folks watchin’, I bet. He took the lead, they say, on lap sixty-nine, and didn’t let go. Musta been a sight to see. He got his first wins on the same weekend, I hear. That’s a good way to do it.
He wins five races in that season, and he is gonna win that Memphis race again. He is really good, isn’t he? I reckon he likes that Memphis track.
He did retire for a while, though. Said he wanted to spend time with his family. That’s good. Family’s important. He’s got a wife and kids, you know. Gotta take care of them. But then there’s talk of him comin’ back to racin’. Folks get excited about that. He is a good racer.

He started out small, you know. Racin’ them trucks. Back in two thousand and two, that was. Did seven races, and his best was eighth place. That ain’t bad for startin’ out. Then he moved on up, got bigger and better. Just kept winnin’.
This race in Memphis, it was part of defendin’ his championship, whatever that means. Sounds fancy, don’t it? He won it the year before, too. He always did like winnin’. He has 72 race wins. That’s a lot, isn’t it?
There was some big wreck one time, I heard about it. Kept him from winnin’ another big one. That’s racin’, I guess. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don’t. But he didn’t complain none. Just kept on goin’. He is 45 years old now, can you believe that? Time sure flies.
Here’s the thing about that Carl Edwards:
- He’s a winner, that’s for sure. Won that big race in Memphis.
- He started way back and still won. That’s somethin’ special.
- He drives a Ford. Good car.
- He used to race trucks. Now he’s a big shot.
- He cares about his family, which is good.
- Carl Edwards wins a lot of races, that’s what I heard.
Now he is back in NASCAR, maybe he will win more. I don’t know. But I’ll be watchin’ for it. I’m always glad to hear when someone does well. Especially that Carl Edwards. He’s a good egg, even if he does drive a little too fast sometimes. I just hope he stays safe out there on that track. It’s a dangerous business, that racin’. But he’s got a good head on his shoulders. He’ll be alright. And I reckon he’ll keep on winnin’, too. That’s just what he does. That boy’s got a gift, I tell ya. A gift for goin’ fast and winnin’ races. And he sure did make a name for himself in Memphis, that’s for darn sure.

I remember one time, back when I was a young girl, we had a fella come through town with a race car. Wasn’t nothin’ like them cars they got now. But it was fast, I tell ya. And loud! Scared the chickens somethin’ awful. But it was excitin’. Made ya feel alive. I reckon that’s what them NASCAR races are like. Just a whole lot bigger and faster. And that Carl Edwards, he’s right in the middle of it all. Good for him. He’s livin’ the dream, ain’t he? Winnin’ races and makin’ a name for himself. That’s somethin’ to be proud of, I reckon. And I bet his mama’s proud of him, too. Every mama wants to see their boy do well. And that Carl Edwards, he’s done real well for himself. Real well indeed.
