Okay, so today I decided to dive into this “Christo Lamprecht swing” thing I’ve been hearing about. I’m no golf pro, but I like to tinker with my swing, and this guy’s motion is just… wild. So, I figured, why not try to break it down and see what all the fuss is about?

First, I watched a bunch of videos. Lots of slow-motion replays, trying to get a feel for the key moves. It’s seriously unconventional, to say the least.
The Setup
I started by trying to mimic his setup. The grip looked pretty standard, nothing too crazy there. But the stance, whoa. He’s got this really wide stance, and it looked like he was leaning back a bit more than I usually do. I tried to copy it, felt a little awkward, but hey, gotta commit, right?
The Backswing
- The biggest thing I noticed, and the hardest part to get my head around, was that backswing. It’s like he’s folding himself in half! The club goes way inside, and his wrist hinge is insane. I mean, I tried to get my wrists to do that, and it felt like they were going to snap.
- I spent a good hour just trying to replicate that backswing motion. No ball, just focusing on getting the club to move the way his does. Lots of slow, deliberate movements, trying to feel the stretch and the coil. I definitely felt muscles working that I don’t usually use!
The Downswing and Impact
Now, for the downswing. This is where things get even weirder. From that super-coiled position, he somehow unwinds with incredible speed. I tried to imagine that feeling of “releasing” all that stored energy. I did a few practice swings. Honestly, I felt like a pretzel untangling.
I set up a ball and gave it a go. Woof. First swing, I almost whiffed it. It felt so unnatural to swing from that position. I topped the second one, and it dribbled about 50 yards. Clearly, this wasn’t going to be a quick fix.

I kept at it, though. I took a bunch more swings, trying to focus on keeping my lower body stable and letting my upper body do the work. It was tough. I hit a few that felt… okay, I guess. Definitely not the power I was expecting, and the direction was all over the place.
The Follow-Through
His follow-through is also pretty unique, finishing very high. I tried to emulate this. The club almost wrapped around, a very high finished. It felt exaggerated.
My Takeaway (For Now)
After a couple of hours of this, I was pretty much exhausted. My back was a little sore, and my wrists were definitely feeling it. I can see how his swing generates a ton of clubhead speed, but it’s going to take a lot more practice for me to even get close to making it work. I definitely didn’t suddenly turn into Christo Lamprecht. But it was a fun experiment, and it gave me a new appreciation for how different – and effective – a golf swing can be.
I’ll probably mess around with this some more, but I’m not throwing out my old swing just yet. Maybe I’ll try to incorporate some elements of it, like that wider stance and maybe a little more wrist hinge. But the full Christo? That’s going to take some serious dedication. I am pretty sure it’s not for everyone!
