Okay, so, a while back, I got myself a 2009 CBR 600 RR. Nice bike, you know? But it wasn’t without its quirks. I figured I’d share my experiences working on it, just in case anyone else out there is tinkering with one of these.

First off, I started by really getting to know the bike. I rode it around, got a feel for how it handled, how it sounded. I wanted to establish a baseline, you know? Like, what’s normal and what’s not?
One of the first things I noticed was this weird ticking sound. Some folks online said it might be the cam chain tensioner. Apparently, it’s a common issue with these bikes. It will wear out early. So I decided to dig into that. I took it apart. It wasn’t super difficult, just had to be careful and keep track of all the bolts and stuff. I found that the tensioner was indeed worn out.
And then there was this other thing. Sometimes the engine just felt… off. Like it wasn’t getting enough fuel or spark, you know? Based on data from some guys, I thought it maybe fuel or electrical problems. I checked the spark plugs, they were sparking all right. It’s quite a nice engine so it must be the fuel. I cleaned out the fuel lines and the injectors.
Besides all that, I also did the usual maintenance stuff. I changed the oil, checked the brakes, and lubricated the chain. I also found that the previous owner took care of the bike very well, so there are not too much problems. Overall, it is a very reliable bike.
After all that, the bike was running like a dream. Smooth, powerful, and that ticking sound? Gone. It was a really satisfying feeling, you know, to take something that wasn’t quite right and make it better.

So, if you’re thinking about getting a 2009 CBR 600 RR, or if you already have one, just be prepared to put in a little work. But trust me, it’s worth it. This bike is a blast to ride when it’s running right.
- Ride the bike and get to know it.
- Investigate any unusual sounds or behaviors.
- Tackle the cam chain tensioner if needed.
- Troubleshoot fuel or spark issues.
- Perform regular maintenance.
- Enjoy the ride!
It’s all about the journey, right? And the satisfaction of fixing something with your own two hands.
