Hey there, y’all. Let’s talk about them Cubs, yeah? Them Chicago Cubs, bless their hearts. Always somethin’ goin’ on with them boys. Seems like half the time they’re on the field, the other half they’re laid up. So, let’s get down to brass tacks and see who’s hurtin’ and who’s playin’.

Now, I ain’t no fancy doctor or nothin’, but I can tell you if a fella’s limpin’ or not. And this year, well, we’ve had our fair share of limpin’. Heard tell there’s been a whole bunch of injuries, more than a hen has chicks. We gotta figure out who’s on the Cubs injury report, ain’t that right?
First off, let’s talk about last year. That 2023 season, seemed like every other game someone was gettin’ pulled. I remember hearin’ about so-and-so hurtin’ his leg, and what’s-his-name twistin’ his ankle. It was a real mess, like a dropped basket of eggs. They had a list longer than my arm of fellas on the injured list, each one with his own ache or pain. You had your outfielders with pulled hamstrings, pitchers with sore arms, and catchers with banged-up knees. It was a whole lotta hurtin’ going on. And them positions, they matter. You can’t have a good team if your catcher ain’t catchin’ or your pitcher ain’t pitchin’, you hear?
Now, this year, 2024, ain’t been much better, has it? We got some new faces, sure, like that Carson Kelly fella they signed. Heard he’s a catcher, so hopefully he can stay healthy, unlike some of them other boys. They even got that Kyle Tucker from the Astros, traded him for that Isaac Parades. Good trade? Who knows. But if they can’t stay healthy, it don’t matter who they got on the team, they gonna be sittin’ on the bench more than playin’ ball. And that ain’t gonna win no games.
- Pitchers: Them pitchers, they always gettin’ hurt. Throwin’ that ball all day, it ain’t natural, I tell ya. Shoulder problems, elbow problems, you name it, they got it. And if your pitchers ain’t healthy, well, you ain’t winnin’ no games. Simple as that.
- Catchers: Them catchers, they get beat up somethin’ fierce. Squattin’ down all day, catchin’ fastballs, foul tips to the mask. It’s tough work. I’m surprised they can even walk after a game, let alone play the next day.
- Infielders: Them fellas in the infield, they gotta be quick, gotta be agile. Divin’ for ground balls, runnin’ the bases, it’s a tough job. And that means they’re prone to sprains, strains, and all sorts of other aches and pains.
- Outfielders: And don’t even get me started on the outfielders. Runnin’ all over that big field, chasin’ fly balls, bangin’ into walls. It’s a wonder they don’t get hurt more often.
I heard tell some of them boys from the Opening Day roster are on the mend. That Jorge Soler fella, I think he was one of ‘em. Good hitter, that boy, when he’s healthy. But that’s the problem, ain’t it? Gotta stay healthy to play. And seems like these Cubs, they just can’t seem to catch a break. It’s always somethin’. One day it’s a twisted ankle, the next day it’s a pulled hamstring. They got more aches and pains than an old mule.
But you know what? Despite all them injuries, them Cubs, they keep on fightin’. They won against the Astros the other night, 4-3, even with half the team laid up. Heard they got a record of 15 and 9, which ain’t too shabby considerin’. Guess that shows you somethin’ about the spirit of these boys. They might be hurtin’, but they ain’t givin’ up. They keep on playin’ hard, no matter what. That’s somethin’ to be proud of, right?

Now, I ain’t gonna lie to ya, it’s hard to keep track of all these injuries. One day a fella’s playin’, the next day he’s on the injured list. It’s like a revolving door. But I try to keep up. I listen to the radio, read the newspaper, sometimes even check that internet thingy, though I don’t understand half of what they’re talkin’ about on there. All them fancy words and numbers, it’s enough to make your head spin.
But one thing I do know is that this Cubs injury situation is a real problem. They gotta figure out how to keep these boys healthy. Maybe it’s the trainin’ they’re doin’, maybe it’s just bad luck. Whatever it is, they gotta fix it. Cause you can’t win no championships with half your team sittin’ on the bench. You need your best players out there on the field, playin’ their hearts out.
So, there ya have it. That’s the lowdown on them Cubs and their injuries, as best as I can tell ya. It ain’t pretty, that’s for sure. But them Cubs, they’re a tough bunch. They’ll keep on fightin’, no matter what. And who knows, maybe they’ll even surprise us all and win it all, despite all them aches and pains. Stranger things have happened, right? Now let’s hope them boys get healthy soon and get back to playin’ the game we all love. Go Cubs Go!
And if you wanna know more, you go on and find that information yourself. I ain’t no fancy reporter, just tellin’ it like I see it.
