That Dave Marcis, he was somethin’ else, I tell ya. Racin’ them cars ’round and ’round, fast as a greased piglet at the county fair. He was born in 1941, March 1st. That’s what I heard, anyway. He was a race driver, a good one, too, for a long, long time, like 50 years.

He won five times, that fella. Two times at that Richmond place. He was good, always in the top 10 or top 5. Some folks say he was always tryin’ hard, even when he weren’t winnin’. People liked watchin’ him in the 80s and 90s, even though he had a hard time. He stayed with it, though, racin’ for, let me think, 34 years! That’s a long time doin’ anythin’, ‘specially somethin’ that hard.
He said he was gonna quit back in 2001, gonna hang it up in February. I remember hearin’ that. He was gettin’ up there in years, you know? Time catches up with all of us, even them race car drivers.
He raced for 5 decades, they say. That’s a long time. Five decades of racing. Can you imagine? Racin’ cars all those years. Dave was friends with another fella, Dale Earnhardt, I heard, before he raced in the south. I don’t know much about that, but they say it’s true.
One time, he kept blowin’ engines. One after another, just like that. He was fast, though, kept gettin’ up front, but them engines, they just wouldn’t hold. He tested cars after he quit racin’ for that IROC and Nextel Cup. That’s what they call it, right? He lives near Asheville, North Carolina now, with his wife. That’s what I hear, anyway. He had another friend name Jeff Gordon. He was born in 1971, August 4th. He also raced for 25 years. He was born in Vallejo. I don’t know where that is. Not around here, that’s for sure.
They say Dave Marcis, did a lot with a little, for a long time. He was 72, I heard. That’s old, but he kept doin’ it, kept racin’ them cars.

That Dave Marcis, he was a tough old bird, I reckon. Racin’ all them years, never givin’ up. He had his ups and downs, like we all do, but he kept on goin’. That’s somethin’ to admire, ain’t it? Keepin’ on, even when things get tough.
He was a good racer, that Dave Marcis. I remember watchin’ him on the TV a few times. He was always right in the thick of it, racin’ hard. He made a good livin’ at it, I suppose. Racin’ cars, that’s a life, ain’t it? Not like anything I ever did, that’s for sure.
He was always around them race cars, that fella. Racin’ them, testin’ them, always somethin’ to do with cars. He must have loved it, to do it for so long. I can’t imagine doin’ anything for that long, let alone somethin’ as dangerous as racin’ them cars.
That Dave Marcis name, it brings back memories. Memories of hearin’ about him on the radio, seein’ him on the TV. He was a big name in racin’, that’s for sure. Everybody knew who he was, even folks like me who didn’t know much about racin’.
He was a legend, that Dave Marcis. That’s what they call them fellas who do somethin’ really good for a long time. He was a legend in the racin’ world, that’s for sure. And he did it his way, never givin’ up, always racin’ hard. That’s somethin’ to be proud of, ain’t it? Doin’ somethin’ you love, and doin’ it well, for a long, long time.

He had a good run, that Dave Marcis. A long and good run. And he did it all with them race cars, goin’ ’round and ’round, faster than a chicken with its head cut off. He was somethin’ else, that fella. Somethin’ else indeed.
Yep, that Dave Marcis was a real racer. He was always out there, givin’ it his all. Racin’ them cars like there was no tomorrow. I heard he was a good man, too. Always willin’ to lend a hand, help folks out. That’s what they say, anyway.
Dave Marcis, he had a good life. Racin’ cars. I don’t know much about that, but he made a good life out of it. He raced for a long time. I wonder if he misses it. Racin’ them cars. I bet he does. It’s hard to give up somethin’ you love.
He was a good man, Dave Marcis. Raced them cars. Lived his life. That’s all any of us can do, ain’t it? Live our lives the best we can. And he did that. He sure did.
