Well, let’s jaw about this HD 750 Street Rod, you know, the one them city folks ride. Lots of folks got ’em, but lemme tell ya, they ain’t without their problems. Heard a whole heap of complaints, ya know, like from my nephew Billy who works down at the garage.

First off, that thing’s got startin’ troubles. Yep, you heard right. Folks go to fire it up, and nothin’ happens. Just sits there like a stubborn mule. Billy says he sees it all the time. Folks come in all red-faced and madder than a wet hen. “Can’t get this darn thing started!” they yell. And Billy, he just sighs and gets to work. It’s a common thing, this not startin’ easy, real common.
- Engine won’t start
- Turns over but won’t fire up
- Starter motor problems
Then there’s the engine itself. Now, I ain’t no mechanic, but even I can hear when somethin’ ain’t right. These here Street Rods, sometimes they make these funny noises, like somethin’s rattlin’ around inside. And folks say they lose power too. You’re ridin’ along, mindin’ your own business, and then, poof! No power. Like the thing’s got a bellyache or somethin’. Billy says keepin’ up with the oil changes and stuff helps, but even then, it ain’t no guarantee.
And talk about overheatin’! These things get hotter than a skillet on a wood stove, specially in the summer. Billy says it’s ‘cause they ain’t got good air flow or somethin’. Whatever the reason, it ain’t right. You’re sittin’ at a stoplight, and you feel that heat comin’ up at ya, bakin’ your legs like a Thanksgiving turkey. Not pleasant, lemme tell ya.
Another thing them city folk complain about is the brakes. Now, brakes are important, real important. You need to stop, you need to stop now, not later. But these Street Rod brakes, they can be tricky. Folks say the front ones ain’t reliable. They grab or they don’t grab, ain’t no tellin’. Billy says it’s somethin’ about the brake pads or the calipers or somethin’. All I know is, you want brakes you can count on, and these here don’t always fit the bill.
Steering issues, too! Can you believe it? The thing’s supposed to go where you point it, right? But sometimes, these Street Rods, they get a mind of their own. Folks say the steerin’ feels heavy, hard to handle. Like you’re wrestlin’ with a greased pig. Not good, not good at all. Especially in that city traffic, gotta be able to dodge them crazy drivers and them potholes the size of a wash tub.

Then there’s the throttle. Now, this is somethin’ my nephew Billy told me about. He says folks complain that the throttle’s like a switch, on or off. No in-between. You twist it a little, nothin’ happens. Then you twist it a little more, and whoosh! You’re takin’ off like a rocket. Hard to control, hard to ride smooth. Makes for a jerky ride, like ridin’ a buckin’ bronco.
And let’s not forget the seat. Small and uncomfortable, they say. Can you imagine sittin’ on somethin’ like that for a long ride? Your backside would be sore for a week! I tell ya, them city folks must be tougher than they look.
Plus, there’s the speedometer problem. Seems some of ’em are defective. Now how you gonna know how fast you’re goin’ if the speedometer ain’t workin’ right? You could end up with a ticket, or worse! That ain’t no good, no sir.
Now, I ain’t sayin’ the HD 750 Street Rod is a bad bike, mind you. But it’s got its quirks, that’s for sure. Lots of HD 750 Street Rod problems folks gotta deal with. If you’re thinkin’ of gettin’ one, well, just be prepared. Do your homework, talk to folks who own ’em, and don’t be surprised if you gotta spend some time and money fixin’ things. That’s just the way it is sometimes. And remember, keep that oil changed and pray it starts when you need it to.
And about that ridin’ in the city, folks say it ain’t the best. Too heavy, hard to turn. Says it’s more of a highway bike, meant for goin’ straight and fast. But then again, with that throttle problem, maybe not so fast. And that top speed, 105 miles per hour? Who in their right mind needs to go that fast? You’ll end up in a ditch or worse. Just take it easy, folks, that’s what I say.

Regular maintenance is key, that’s what Billy always says. Take care of your machine, and it’ll take care of you. But even then, sometimes things just break. That’s life, I guess. Just like my old tractor, always somethin’ needin’ fixin’. But that’s a story for another day.
