Well, let me tell ya, them Mariners boys, they ain’t doin’ so good. Always gettin’ themselves hurt, seems like. Injuries, that’s the word they use. Don’t know what half them fancy words mean, but I know when a fella can’t play, he can’t play.

Heard on the radio the other day, some fella talkin’ ’bout how the Mariners, they’re tryin’ to get to them playoffs. Playoffs, sounds important, like winnin’ some big prize at the county fair. But how they gonna win anything if all the players are sittin’ on the bench with boo-boos?
- Heard tell of one fella, Murphy, they said he’s a catcher. Guess he catches the balls. Anyways, they said he was doin’ alright, so that’s somethin’, I reckon.
- Then there’s this other fella, Castillo, they call him “La Piedra,” somethin’ like “the rock” in that fancy Spanish talk. Sounds tough, right? But even a rock can break, seems like. Hurt his leg, they said. Hamstring, that’s what the radio man called it. Sounds painful.
Now, them Mariners, they got a tough row to hoe, as they say. Lots of games left, and they gotta win most of ’em, from what I hear. But it ain’t easy when your fellas are all banged up. Heard they can’t hit the ball good neither. Somethin’ about strikeouts. Lots of swingin’ and missin’, I guess. Can’t win no games that way, that’s for sure.
This team, they ain’t been to them playoffs in a long time, not since ’22, they said. And for a while there, they was doin’ real good, leadin’ the pack, like a rooster in a henhouse. But then, bam! Injuries, and bad playin’, and now they’re fightin’ just to get a spot in them playoffs. It’s a real collapse, like a barn in a windstorm.
Seems like every time I turn on the radio, there’s another fella hurt. Shoulder problems, leg problems, all sorts of aches and pains. They got doctors and trainers and all that, but sometimes a body just breaks down, ya know? It ain’t like fixin’ a fence post. This injury report, it just gets longer and longer every day.
And the worst part is, they gotta play all these other teams, tough teams, and they gotta beat ’em. It’s a real tough schedule. Gotta win almost every game left, they say. And that’s hard to do when half your team is sittin’ on the sidelines. It’s like tryin’ to plow a field with a mule that’s got a limp.

I don’t know much about baseball, but I know this: you need healthy players to win. And right now, the Mariners, they ain’t got enough healthy players. They need to get them boys fixed up, and quick, or else they ain’t gonna make it to them playoffs. And that’d be a shame, ’cause the folks ’round here, they love their Mariners.
So, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. Maybe them fellas will get better, maybe they’ll find some new fellas to play. But one thing’s for sure, it ain’t gonna be easy. The Mariners got a fight on their hands, and they gotta overcome these injuries if they wanna come out on top. It’s gonna be a nail-biter, that’s for sure.
This whole MLB thing, it’s complicated. Too many rules and numbers for my likin’. But I can understand a win and a loss. And right now, there’s too many losses because too many fellas are hurt. They need to get healthy and get back to hittin’ that ball. That’s all I gotta say ‘bout that.
I heard them fellas on the radio talkin’ ’bout tradin’ players. Said somethin’ ’bout gettin’ new guys to help out. But I dunno, seems like you gotta dance with the one who brung ya, as they say. Hope them Mariners can figure it out. They got good pitchers, they say, but you need more than just pitchin’ to win. You gotta hit the ball, and you gotta run fast, and you gotta not get hurt all the time. That’s the key, I reckon.
