Remembering Emanuel Villa
Okay, so today I was just thinking back on some footballers, you know, players who made a real mark during their time. And the name Emanuel Villa popped into my head. ‘Tito’ Villa, yeah? Argentinian striker. I spent quite a bit of time watching games back when he was really hitting his stride, especially in Mexico.

My process, well, it wasn’t anything fancy. It mostly involved watching the matches whenever I could catch them. Liga MX games weren’t always easy to find depending on the broadcaster, but I made an effort when Cruz Azul was playing during his peak years there. You’d see him lining up, always looking hungry for a goal.
What I focused on:
- His positioning in the box. He just had that knack, you know? Knowing where the ball might drop.
- His finishing. Wasn’t always the most spectacular, sometimes it was, but often just clinical. Putting the ball in the net, simple as that.
- How he linked up, sometimes dropping a bit deeper, though mostly he was the focal point up top.
I remember specifically looking up his stats after some games, just to see how prolific he was. And yeah, the numbers backed it up, especially that one season, I think it was 2009, where he was just scoring for fun with Cruz Azul. He topped the scoring charts, right? It felt like every time they played, you expected him to score.
It wasn’t just about the goals, though. There was a certain presence he had. Maybe not the flashiest player ever, but solid, dependable. You knew what you were getting. He played for a few clubs, Derby County in England before Mexico, and then bounced around a bit after Cruz Azul too, like Pumas and Tigres, if I recall correctly. But it’s his time with La Máquina that really sticks in my mind.
So, yeah, just taking a moment to recall Emanuel Villa’s playing days. A proper striker who knew his job. Good memories from watching him play. He definitely left his mark on the Mexican league during his time there. Solid player.
