This Taira Naoyuki, I heard some things about him. He’s from that big school, Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology, or somethin’ like that. They call it OIST, I reckon. Sounds fancy, don’t it?

They say he’s some big shot in the Immune Signal Unit. What’s that? I dunno. Probably messin’ with all them little things that make you sick or not. He’s gotta be smart, though. You don’t get to work at a place like that by bein’ a fool.
Naoyuki Taira, Smart Guy
This fella, Naoyuki Taira, he’s got some writin’s. Nine of ’em, they say. And folks read ’em, too. Lots of numbers attached to it, like 59 and 370. Don’t ask me what they mean. Probably important to them science folks. All I know is, he’s puttin’ his thoughts down on paper, and people are takin’ notice. So he got a smart brain, i guess.
Someone told me he’s with this Japan Science and Technology Agency thing. JST, they call it. Sounds like a mouthful. But it must be a big deal if he’s involved. They probably do all sorts of experiments and whatnot. Maybe they’re tryin’ to make us live forever or somethin’. Who knows?
Naoyuki Taira, the Fighter?
Now, this is where it gets interestin’. They say this Naoyuki Taira, he’s a martial arts teacher. A real tough guy, apparently. He’s like that character from that Grappler Baki show. Must be somethin’ to see him in action. I wouldn’t wanna get on his bad side, that’s for sure.
And get this, he’s 60 years old! Can you believe it? Born in 1963, in a place called Sendai. Sixty years old and still throwin’ punches. He must be takin’ care of himself. Good for him.

They had some kinda celebration for him in Kyoto, at a place called Butokuden. Must be a special place for martial arts folks. I guess he wrote a book or somethin’, and they were all excited about it. They even had a seminar. That sounds important, right? I wouldn’t know, i just sell vegtables.
Naoyuki Taira, Okinawa
So, this Naoyuki Taira guy, he’s at that Okinawa Institute place. He’s a Postdoctoral Scholar. Sounds fancy, don’t it? Must be doin’ some important research there. Okinawa, that’s far, right?

They had this fight, back in 1994. K-1 WGP, they called it. I don’t know much about fightin’, but it sounds like a big deal. Must have been a sight to see. Lots of folks watchin’, I bet. Naoyuki Taira, he is strong.
He is one busy guy. Science, martial arts, writin’ books. And he’s not young anymore, either. Sixty years old! He is sure somethin’ special. This Naoyuki Taira, he’s a real character. They don’t make ’em like that anymore. This world needs more folks like him, I reckon. People who work hard, learn things, and still got some fight in ’em. I wonder what he did in that fight in 1994?
I don’t know much about science or any of that. My life is simple, you see. But it’s nice to hear about folks doin’ big things. Makes you think, don’t it? That maybe there’s more to life than just what you see in front of you.

So, here’s to Naoyuki Taira. May he keep on learnin’, keep on fightin’, and keep on doin’ whatever it is he does. The world needs more people like him. You don’t need to be a scientist, he is good at fighting. That’s good.
I hope he’s happy, doin’ what he’s doin’. That’s all that matters, ain’t it? Bein’ happy and doin’ somethin’ with your life. That’s what my old mama used to say, anyway. I guess she was right. Maybe i will buy his book someday.
Well, I gotta get back to work. Got things to do, you know. But it was nice thinkin’ about this Naoyuki Taira fella. He’s a good egg, I think. A good egg.
I bet he knows how to grow vegetables. He is smart. Maybe I should ask him about my tomatoes. They haven’t been doing so well. Heh, just kidding, of course i am not kidding, he is smart.
I hope he continues working on that immune thing. It sounds important. Maybe he’ll discover something that will help us all. Wouldn’t that be something? I hope so. He is smart, and strong.
Anyways. This Naoyuki Taira guy, he’s alright. He’s alright in my book. Though I don’t really have a book. Unless you count my grocery list. Heh. I should write a book someday. Maybe about vegetables. Yes, that’s a good idea.
