Alright, let’s talk about this here car racin’ thing. People keep askin’, “What time is Sunday’s NASCAR race?” Well, hold your horses, it ain’t always the same time, you know. It’s like tryin’ to catch a chicken in the yard, sometimes it’s here, sometimes it’s there.

First thing ya gotta know is, these races, they ain’t always on Sunday. Sometimes they run ’em on Saturday night, like them young folks goin’ out dancin’. I heard tell there’s a race, a big one, the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs, that’s gonna be run on a Saturday at 7:30 in the evenin’, that’s what they call “ET.” Don’t ask me what that means, city folks and their fancy words.
But if it’s a Sunday race you’re after, well, it still ain’t so simple. They got different tracks, see? Like, there’s this place called Talladega Superspeedway. They have races there and they run on Sunday, but the time, well, that’s a whole ‘nother story. They don’t tell you straight, you gotta go lookin’ for it, like huntin’ for mushrooms in the woods.
Then there’s this other place, Kansas Speedway, they got somethin’ called the Hollywood Casino 400, sounds fancy, huh? That one starts at 3 p.m. ET on a Sunday. See? Different time, different place. Makes an old lady’s head spin.
- So, Sunday races ain’t all at the same time.
- Some races are on Saturday, even at night.
- Different tracks mean different race times.
Now, this past weekend, they had this big championship race down in Phoenix Raceway. Folks were all worked up about it. That one was on a Sunday. And lemme tell ya, it was a big deal ‘cause this fella, Martin Truex Jr., was retirin’ or somethin’, his last race as a full-timer they called it. He started first, got that “pole position,” fancy talk for startin’ in front. And that Joey Logano fella, he started right behind him. That race, they said it was on TV, NBC and some bird-named thing, Peacock. They started broadcastin’ at 2 p.m., gettin’ everyone all riled up before the racin’ even started. They called it “Countdown to Green,” guess that’s when they wave the flag or somethin’.
And if you’re one of them folks with the radios, there’s this Motor Racing Network, they start talkin’ about the race at 2 p.m. too. And if you got that SiriusXM thing, well, they got the race on there too. Lots of ways to listen, I tell ya, more ways than there are possums in the cornfield.

But sometimes, things get all messed up. Like that one time, they had to postpone a race. Postpone, that’s like sayin’ “hold your horses, we ain’t doin’ it today.” They was gonna race in February, but then they had to wait ‘til later, 4 p.m. they said. And another time, they stopped a race and started it up again later in August, at 11 a.m. Weather, I reckon, or maybe the cars got tired, who knows. It’s like plantin’ corn, sometimes the rain comes, sometimes it don’t, ya just gotta go with the flow.
And wouldn’t ya know it, sometimes they even race on a Monday. Can ya believe it? That big Daytona 500 race, they done run it on a Monday three times now. Seems like they just can’t make up their minds when to race.
So, if you really wanna know what time Sunday’s NASCAR race is, you gotta dig a little deeper. You gotta find out where they’re racin’, what kinda race it is, and what day it’s on, ’cause it ain’t always Sunday, y’know. Then you gotta go lookin’ for the time, on the TV, or the radio, or maybe ask one of them young’uns with their fancy phones, they seem to know everything these days.
Finding the NASCAR race time ain’t like bakin’ a pie, where you just follow the recipe. It’s more like tryin’ to figure out when the fish are gonna bite. Sometimes they bite in the mornin’, sometimes in the evenin’, and sometimes they just don’t bite at all. Same with these races, I tell ya.
