You know that Denver, that big city, it’s somethin’ else. They call it the Mile High City. Why you ask? Well, ’cause it’s sittin’ way up high, a whole mile above the sea! Can you believe that?
Yep, Denver’s elevation is a whole mile up. That’s 5,280 feet, I heard someone say. A mile is 5,280 feet. And Denver just happens to be right there, at that elevation. It’s like, right on the nose. Now, ain’t that somethin’? They even got it marked on the steps of that big fancy building, the Capitol, I think they call it. 13th step. That’s a mile high, just like the rest of Denver. Some folks say it’s good luck, Denver’s elevation being exactly one mile high. Who knows about that stuff? I just know it’s high up.
Now, this Denver, it’s right smack dab in the middle of them Rocky Mountains. Big ol’ mountains, all around. And Denver, it’s the capital of Colorado. Big city, lots of folks, lots of things goin’ on.
I heard them talkin’ ’bout the weather up there in Denver. They say Denver’s elevation makes it different. Air is thin, they say. Don’t know what that means, exactly, but I reckon it means you gotta breathe a little harder.
And sports! They got all kinds of sports in Denver. Baseball, football, basketball, you name it. I heard them say that Denver’s elevation makes it harder for them athletes. Gets ’em tired quicker, ’cause of that thin air. They say the players get tired faster. Their blood can’t carry as much air to their muscles. Imagine that! Makes sense, I guess. Runnin’ around with not enough air. I’d be tired too.
But people like livin’ in Denver. They like that elevation of Denver. They like bein’ up high, near them mountains. They do all sorts of things outside. Hiking, biking, skiing, you name it. And Denver got all the big city things, like museums.

They even consolidated the city and county into one big thing back in 1902. Imagine that! Sounds complicated to me, but that’s what they did. Denver elevation hasn’t changed, though. Still a mile high.
So, this Denver, it’s a big deal. That elevation of Denver, it’s what makes it special, they say. A whole mile above the sea. Up there in them Rocky Mountains. It’s a long way up. If you ever get a chance to go, you should check it out. See that mile-high step on that Capitol building. Then you can say you been to the Mile High City. I’ve heard that Denver’s elevation is pretty unique. It is the only big city that’s exactly a mile high. I also heard that Denver’s elevation is higher than any other major city in the U.S. That’s what I heard, anyway.
That Denver, it’s a mile high. Elevation of Denver is somethin’. That’s all I know. That’s a long way up. It’s a long way up to the sky in Denver. A whole mile. It is a really big city, with a lot of things going on. And, they got good food. Food is always important. You can’t have a good city without good food.
Denver elevation is 5,280 feet. That’s a big number. But it’s just how high up Denver is. That’s where Denver is. Way up there. If you’re afraid of heights, maybe don’t go to Denver. Or maybe do. Maybe it’ll help. I don’t know much about that stuff. But I know about Denver’s elevation. One mile high. That’s what they say. And I believe ’em. Seems right. It is higher than where I am. Much higher.
