So, I finally got around to trying out Newburg Village Golf Club the other day. Been meaning to for a while, just to see what it was all about. You hear things, you know, bits and pieces, so I figured, heck, let’s just go play some golf.

Getting There and First Look
Didn’t make a big deal out of it. Just hopped in the car on a Tuesday morning, thinking it wouldn’t be too packed. Turned out to be a good call. Parking was easy enough, right near the clubhouse. The place itself, well, it’s got that look, you know? Like it’s seen a few seasons. Not shiny and new, but comfortable, like an old pair of shoes. I kinda dig that sometimes, less fuss.
Walked in, and the pro shop was pretty standard. Guy behind the counter was friendly enough, got me sorted out without any drama. That’s always a good start.
The All-Important Practice Green
Now, before I even think about hitting a real shot, I always, and I mean always, head to the putting green. It’s like, my ritual. If you don’t get a feel for the greens, you’re just asking for a bad day, especially on a course you’ve never played.
- So, I dropped a few balls down.
- Started rolling some putts, trying to get the pace.
- Heard the greens here could be quick, and yeah, the practice green seemed to back that up.
- Spent a good, solid twenty minutes there. Just trying to dial it in. Some days you feel it right away, other days it’s a bit of a fight. This was somewhere in between.
You hope the practice green is a true reflection of what’s out on the course. Sometimes it is, sometimes it ain’t. That’s the gamble. I was hoping they matched up, ’cause if not, those first few holes could get ugly fast.
Hitting the Links – The Actual Golf Part
Alright, so after my putting green session, felt as ready as I was gonna be. Grabbed a cart – yeah, I’m at that age where walking 18 feels more like a chore some days, especially on a new track. Headed to the first tee. Wasn’t aiming to break any records, just wanted to see the layout, get a feel for the place. Decided on just nine holes to start.

And let me tell ya, those first few holes, the greens were no joke. Definitely had to be on your toes with the putter. What I felt on the practice green? Yeah, it was pretty much spot on. Took a hole or two to really adjust, stop leaving everything miles short or blasting it past. The course itself, for what I saw of it, seemed fair. Not overly tricked up, but you couldn’t just spray it around either. Had to think your way around a bit.
The fairways were in decent shape, grass was cut nice. Bunkers looked okay, didn’t find myself in one, thankfully. It wasn’t deserted, saw a few other golfers, but it wasn’t like a six-hour round situation either. Just a steady flow. That’s how I like it.
Wrapping Up the Day
Finished my nine, felt pretty good about the experience. Newburg Village isn’t trying to be one of those super fancy, high-dollar country clubs. It’s more of a local, everyday kind of place. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Actually, I prefer it most times. Less pretense, more golf.
For the money, I’d say it was a fair shake. The greens are the main thing that’ll stick with me – they’ll test you, for sure. You gotta have some touch. I heard that if you become a member, you get better access and all that. Makes sense if you live close by and play a lot. For a drop-in round like mine, it was just fine.
So, yeah, that was my little trip to Newburg Village Golf Club. Probably head back sometime, maybe try the full 18 when I’ve got more time. It’s a solid, no-frills kind of golf experience.
