Okay, so, let’s talk about this Angel Aybar fella. I heard some folks chattin’ ’bout him, so I figured I’d poke around and see what the fuss is all about. Seems like he’s a baseball player, you know, one of them fellas who throws balls real fast.
Now, they tell me this Aybar, he signed up with the Houston Astros. That’s a big team, I reckon. But he ain’t playin’ in the big leagues yet, no sir. He’s in what they call the “minor league.” Sounds like he’s still learnin’ the ropes, kinda like a young calf learnin’ to stand on its own four legs.
- They say he’s a pitcher, a “relief pitcher” they call it. Means he comes in when the other fella gettin’ tired, I guess.
- He throws right-handed, which I hear is pretty common. And he bats right-handed too. Nothin’ too fancy ’bout that.
- He’s a tall drink of water, 6 foot 3 inches they say, and skinny as a rail, only 162 pounds. Lord, I bet he eats like a bird!
This Aybar fella, he was born in April, but they don’t say what year. Guess it don’t matter none, as long as he can throw that ball. He’s playin’ for somethin’ called the DSL Astros Blue now. Sounds like a fancy name for a bunch of youngsters runnin’ around a field.
I tried lookin’ up some more stuff ’bout him. Seems like he got himself some followers on them internet things. One place says he got 1,800 followers, another says 416, and another says 420. Land sakes, can’t these folks make up their minds? I guess young folks like to follow each other around, even on them computers.
They got all sorts of numbers ’bout this Aybar fella too. Stuff ’bout how fast he throws the ball and how many games he’s played. I ain’t got no head for numbers, so I just skimmed over that part. But it seems like they keep track of everything these fellas do. Must be important to someone, I reckon.

I also saw somethin’ ’bout his “career pitching statistics.” Now that sounds mighty fancy, don’t it? They got numbers for the “Major League” and the “Minor League.” Since he ain’t in the big leagues yet, I guess them minor league numbers is all that matters for now. They got numbers for all sorts of things, like how many times he struck folks out and how many runs he let in. It’s all Greek to me, but I figure if he’s good, them numbers will be good too.
They got a whole website for this minor league baseball stuff. They say it’s got “features, news, rosters, statistics, schedules, teams, live game radio broadcasts.” Sounds like a whole lot of hoopla for a bunch of fellas playin’ ball. But I guess that’s how they do things these days. Everything’s gotta be big and fancy.
So, what do I make of this Angel Aybar fella? Well, he’s a young baseball player tryin’ to make it to the big leagues. He’s tall and skinny, throws right-handed, and got a bunch of folks followin’ him on the internet. He ain’t famous yet, but maybe someday he will be. Who knows? Maybe one day I’ll see him on TV, throwin’ that ball faster than a chicken runnin’ from a fox.
Anyways, that’s ’bout all I could find on this Angel Aybar. He seems like a decent young fella, workin’ hard and chasin’ his dream. Good for him, I say. We all need somethin’ to keep us goin’, whether it’s throwin’ a baseball or just tryin’ to get supper on the table. And that’s the truth, as sure as I’m standin’ here.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go tend to my chickens. They’re probably wonderin’ where I got off to. All this talk ’bout baseball got me all worked up. Time to get back to somethin’ I understand, like feedin’ my flock and watchin’ them little chicks grow. That’s real life, right there, not all this fancy stuff on the internet.
