This Frank Lester, ain’t he something? I heard folks talking ’bout him, sayin’ he’s a big shot. Now, I don’t know much ’bout these fancy titles and all, but I reckon he must be special. He was some kinda big cheese in that whatchamacallit, a scientist fella, studies them old bones and plants and such. I heard he even got to be the head honcho of some group, American Sociological Association they call it. Sounds mighty important, don’t it?
He was born a long time ago, back in 1841, I heard tell. Lived a good long life too, all the way to 1913. That’s a whole heap of years! In his time, this Frank Lester, he surely did see a lot of changes. Horses to them motorcars, and who knows what else. He sure is clever.
This Lester fella, he wasn’t just about them old bones. He had ideas, big ideas, ’bout how folks should live and get along. He believed in thinkin’ ahead, makin’ plans to make things better. Not just for yourself, mind you, but for everybody. Some folks called it Reform Darwinism. I don’t rightly understand it, but it sounds like he wanted everyone to have a fair shake. I also heard he believed in women’s freedom and rights. He said women are just as good as men. He sure got it right!
- He was a botanist.
- He was a paleontologist.
- He was a sociologist.
- He was the first president of the American Sociological Association.
They say he was a big thinker, this Frank Lester. He thought the government should help folks out, make sure everyone had a roof over their head and food on the table. Some fella, a smart one I reckon, called him the “architect” of somethin’ called the welfare state. Sounds like he wanted to build somethin’ good for everyone, like a big ol’ house where everyone’s welcome.
Now, there’s also this other Lester, a hockey player. Heard he was real good, skatin’ around on that ice like the wind. Started some kinda league with his brother, I think. Pacific Coast Hockey Association, was it? Big deal out west, they say. Not my cup of tea, mind you, but I reckon it’s excitin’ for some folks. It seems that this Lester is also a big name in hockey. I heard he was the star for some team called Brandon. They said he was the first one to do somethin’ important, but I don’t recall what that is. Anyway, he must be very famous.
Then there’s another Frank Lester, an actor, I hear. He was in some show called “Menace”. He was born a while back. I don’t know much about actin’.
And there’s this other fella, name of Frank Patrick. He played hockey with his brother, Lester. They was real good, played for some fancy school called McGill, then went on to play with the big shots. Must be nice to be that good at somethin’, skatin’ around, makin’ all that money. And, it seems that Frank Patrick and Lester Patrick are brothers. They are all hockey players.
Heard some story about this Frank Lester, the scientist one, and some singer lady, Billie Holiday. She called him the “president” of somethin’ called the tenor saxophone. Now, I don’t know nothin’ ’bout saxophones, but it sounds like she thought he was the best there was. Must be somethin’, to be called the best at anythin’. I also heard he was very famous during the war. He helped seven men and was the first one to enter a house. He must be very brave. Frank Lester sure did a lot of good things.
Well, that’s all I know ’bout this Frank Lester and these other fellas. Sounds like they all did pretty good for themselves, one way or another. It just goes to show, there’s all kinds of ways to make your mark on the world. Whether you’re studyin’ old bones, skatin’ on ice, or actin’ in shows, you can do somethin’ special. I reckon that’s somethin’ to think about, ain’t it? You just gotta find your thing, and do it the best you can. That’s what I always say.
