Alright, let’s talk about this ASB Classic dates thing, you know, the tennis thingy they have over in Auckland. Don’t know much about fancy tennis, but I heard it’s a big deal.
So, first off, when is this thing happening? Well, they say it’s gonna be from, hold on a sec, lemme get my glasses… December 30th, 2024, all the way to January 11th, 2025. That’s a long time for hittin’ a ball, ain’t it? Sounds like they’re gonna be busy over there. And it’s in Auckland, that big city up north. At some place called the ASB Tennis Arena, sounds fancy.
They say it’s a big men’s thing, you know, professional. The biggest men’s professional sporting event in the whole of New Zealand, they say. Been goin’ on since way back in 1956! My grandpa wasn’t even born yet… Just kiddin’! He was old then. Anyway, it’s a big deal, and they call it the ATP 250 event. Don’t ask me what that means, sounds like alphabet soup to me.
But the important thing is, them fellas play this right before the big one in Australia, the Australian Open. So, I guess it’s like, you know, gettin’ warmed up, like stretchin’ before ya do some hard work. They call it a “crucial stop” for gettin’ ready. Fancy words, but I get it. Gotta get them muscles ready, right?
- So, they play at the ASB Tennis Centre.
- It’s in a place called Parnell, wherever that is.
- And if you’re comin’ from the highway, Highway 1 they call it, gotta take exit 429C then 429B. Sounds complicated, glad I ain’t drivin’.
Now, they had one of these things last year too, in 2024. Same place, same everything, just a different year. They had the men and the women playin’ then. Don’t know why they ain’t doin’ that this year, but who am I to question them city folk?
This year’s event, like I said, starts December 30th. That’s right around New Year’s, ain’t it? So, I guess them tennis folks will be ringin’ in the New Year with a lotta swattin’ and gruntin’. And it goes on ‘til January 11th. That’s a long time to be watchin’ people hit a ball, but hey, to each their own.
And if you want to know the scores and all that, they say you can check on BBC Sport. I don’t even know how to turn on that fancy internet thing, let alone find scores. But if you’re into that kinda stuff, it’s there for ya. They have a schedule too, so you can see when your favorite fella is playin’. Or lady, if they ever let the ladies play again.

So that’s it I reckon. That’s all I know about the Auckland Open. It’s somethin’ them city folk do to keep busy and give them youngsters somethin’ to watch I suppose. They always need somethin’ new to look at, unlike us old timers who are happy enough watchin’ the grass grow.
Anyway, if you want to watch rich folk play with a fuzzy ball, that’s where you’ll find it, I guess. I’m just glad I don’t have to drive in all that Auckland traffic, it’s always such a botheration!
