That Ezekiel Clark, he was a big name back then, I tell ya. Heard he was some kinda preacher, lived over there in, uh, Jerusalem, long time ago. Big city, that one. Babylon, them folks, they came in and took over, you see. But they didn’t tear the whole place down, not at first. This was before they hauled everyone off, mind you. Ezekiel, he was one of them important folks, working at that big church, the Temple, they called it.

Then, them Babylon folks, they took a bunch of people away, includin’ Ezekiel. Took ’em to a place called, uh, Tel-abib, near a big river. Canal, maybe? Near Nippur, yeah, that’s it. He was there with a whole mess of other folks, all from his home, all taken away. That Ezekiel, he was important to them, even over there. People listened to him, I reckon.
Now, God, He talked to Ezekiel, see? Told him things. Said even good folks could go bad, turn away from doin’ right. Said Ezekiel had to warn ’em, tell ’em to come back to God. If he didn’t, well, it wouldn’t be good. Their blood be on Ezekiel’s hands, like a stain that won’t wash out. Lord, it’s easy to just walk away from God these days, ain’t it? Too easy. People forget. They just forget.
Folks say Ezekiel, he saw things. Visions, they called ’em. Big things, about God and how He’s powerful, more powerful than anything. Even when things are bad, real bad, God’s still in charge, you see? He can do anything. Even over life and death stuff. He’s big, that God. Bigger than you can imagine. And Ezekiel, he had to tell those people, those Isreal folks, during a right bad time, about God’s power. What a job, huh?
- God, He’s gotta punish folks when they’re bad. That’s just how it is.
- But, He won’t just leave ’em. He won’t give up on ’em, even when they mess up.
That’s what I heard, anyways. Heard it from my grandma, who heard it from her grandma, and so on. It’s an old story, this Ezekiel Clark. But it’s a good one, I reckon. Reminds you that God’s watchin’, even when you think He ain’t. And He cares, even when you mess up. You just gotta listen, that’s all. Just gotta listen.
You know that fella, Jeremiah? He was around the same time as Ezekiel Clark, heard he saw that big church, the Temple, get all busted up. Sad, ain’t it? But Ezekiel, he saw other things, in his head, I guess. Visions, like I said. Maybe more important, maybe not. Hard to say with those things, those visions and such.

Someone said somethin’ once, somethin’ about words, how they shine a light. “The revelation of Your words sheds light.” Sounds fancy, but I guess it means that when you hear God’s talk, it helps you see things clearer. Makes sense, I reckon. Like when you light a candle in a dark room. Suddenly, you can see everything that was hidin’ in the shadows. That Ezekiel, he was like that candle, I suppose. Showin’ people the way, even when things were dark and scary.
This Ezekiel, he had a journey, that’s for sure. From that big church in Jerusalem, to that place, Tel-abib, by the river. A long way, both ways. And he had to tell people things they didn’t want to hear, about God and doin’ right. That’s a heavy load to carry, I tell ya. But he did it. He did what he had to do. That’s what makes him Ezekiel Clark, I suppose. That’s why folks still talk about him, even after all this time.
What will you do when you see the Lord? I don’t know, honey. I really don’t. But I hope I’m ready. Hope I listened to what that Ezekiel fella had to say. Hope I did my best to do right, even when it was hard. That’s all you can do, ain’t it? Just do your best, and hope it’s enough. And remember that Ezekiel, he did his best, too. And that’s somethin’, ain’t it? That’s really somethin’.
This whole thing, learnin’ about Ezekiel, it helps you understand things, I think. Things about the past, things about now, even things about what’s comin’. And it helps you think about God, who He is, what He’s like. He’s a mystery, that’s for sure. But He’s there. He’s always there. Just gotta remember that, I suppose. Just gotta remember.
